Located in Elgin, the equipment operator is responsible for accepting incoming wastes, preparation of compost mixtures, documentation, operating equipment and driving delivery trucks. This is a seasonal position.


Responsibilities:


  • Operate CAT 308 Excavator, CAT 938 Loader, and CAT 289D Skid-steer to perform composting tasks of mixing, turning, loading and unloading or materials
  • Ensuring all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety regulations
  • Cleaning, lubricating, and performing regular safety checks on equipment.
  • Ensuring equipment is properly positioned before turning it on and off, or loading and unloading it
  • Observing the safe distribution of compost materials
  • Identifying faults and troubleshooting equipment as required
  • Promptly reporting all issues to Facility Manager
  • Ensuring sites are kept clean and safe
  • Accept incoming feedstock and process it within 24 hours
  • Inspect material for contamination before and after unloading, record all findings. If incoming feedstock contains large amounts of unacceptable or unagreed upon material, the load should be rejected
  • Properly broken down, stacked, or disposed of Pallets, totes, boxes, gaylords after unloading
  • Any standing water or leachate will be covered with dry material as quickly as possible, then mixed in with input feedstocks or in-process piles
  • All equipment, tools and other company items will be cleaned and secured at the end of each workday and maintained in good working order
  • Site maintenance as needed
  • Ensure compliance with SC Composting license and work with SC DHEC
  • Compost Processing
  • Mix product available at the site to create the composting piles
  • Internal pile in-process temperature shall be measured 3 times per week
  • Register the information in the processing spreadsheet
  • Make amendments to the pile if the temperature does not rise to the required temperature or if temperature is too high.
  • Completed piles should be moved to curing location for 30 to 45 days
  • Cured product is ready to be screened and bagged or stored to be sold in bulk
Requirements:


  • minimum 3 years of heavy equipment operator experience
  • Ability to follow instructions effectively and in a timely manner
  • Knowledge and experience in operating heavy machinery: skid-steer, loader and excavator
  • Knowledge and experience in use of various hand tools
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Reliable transportation
