Job Summary


Soil Sort Worker is responsible for sorting incoming soiled laundry in preparation for the laundry process.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

This position will work within a team of people performing similar duties. Along with one or more team members, may perform some or all of the following duties during a given shift:

Manually open bags containing soiled linen

Push or pull a cart weighing up to 800 pounds from the adjoining sorting area

Position cart on the floor-located scale to note bag weight

Move the cart up to the hoist loading area

Lift bag straps and attach them to the overhead hoist

Activate hoist control pushbuttons to initiate the conveyance of the bag

Sort linen by hand to identify and separate by type

Pick up and place linen in the appropriate bins

Check machinery as needed, e.g., in case of jams

Demonstrates friendly and respectful behavior in the work environment

Perform job rotation as required

Assist in any job duty that is needed instructed by Management.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to read and write in English

Quality orientation and high attention to detail

Able to manage multiple tasks, changing priorities and easily adapt to fluctuating situations

Strong teamwork skills- ready and willing to work closely with team members

Able to lift in excess of 50 pounds

Able to continuously push/pull carts over 250 pounds

Open, and able, to work day or night shifts, and willing to rotate shifts depending on production needs

Open to long hours and working weekends (Saturday/Sunday) when necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in a plant environment

Requirements:

Physical Requirements.

  • Physical demands include constant standing and frequent walking.
  • Constant reaching above and below shoulder height, twisting, grasping, and pulling items and work tools such as mops, towels, and cleaning products.
  • Repetitive hand movement includes simple and power grasping, fine manipulation and pushing and pulling items up to 50 lbs. on a constant basis.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Ability to hear for safety and awareness of surroundings.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands for the entire shift.

Work EnvironmentProduction areas of a typical industrial laundry facility, which includes working with and around large machinery, variations in temperature (non-air-conditioned work area), noise, humidity, and other hazards. The ability to complete job duties while wearing protective gear during indoor and outdoor tasks.Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
