Position Description:

This position oversees the running of the entire Commercial Installation Team.  It ensures that all company-wide & department specific processes and policies are followed by all, provides direct management of the Commercial Superintendents, and provides management support and guidance to the commercial management team (Superintendents and Forepersons).


Working with the GM/CEO, Commercial Installation Manager is accountable for ensuring that the Commercial Installation Department and its subcontractors have the capacity and ability to deliver the monthly and annual revenues established and adjusted regularly by the GM/CEO, and when all elements are in place (plans, permits, parts, people), the department delivers projects on time and on budget.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all company-wide & department specific processes and policies are followed by all (e.g., safety standards, travel policy, meal break policy, etc.)
  • Work with Human Resources to address disciplinary issues and establish performance improvement plans, as required
  • Ensures timecards and credit card reports for the entire team are completed accurately and on time
  • Ensures field hand-offs are scheduled consistently and on time
  • Ensures projects are closed out consistently and on time
  • Tracks and reports prevailing wage distribution and overtime usage ensuring both are assigned and approved appropriately
  • Tracks and reports to-date earnings throughout the year to gauge whether or not “Prevailing Wage Boost Guaranty” will be required for qualified installers.
  • Reviews and approves Superintendents’ and Forepersons’ requests for time off
  • In coordination with HR, Facilitates the recruiting and interview process with Superintendents and Forepersons to efficiently hire & onboard new team members
  • Ensures all team members complete interdepartmental documents (e.g., field forms) consistently and in a timely manner
  • Ensures regular feedback to Engineering and Estimating accordingly
  • Attends Management meetings
  • Attends Revenue forecasting meetings
  • Runs the Superintendent Level 10 department meetings with a focus on long-term planning
  • Runs monthly safety meeting
  • Runs the short-interval scheduling meeting
  • Assigns Superintendents to jobs
  • Maintains records for equipment & safety certifications and plans for re-certifications
  • Coordinates management, safety and construction training opportunities.
  • Ensures site specific Safety Plans are completed and executed for every project in accordance to the company’s Injury & Illness Prevention Program.
  • Manage Commercial Superintendents and Forepersons.
  • Commercial Installation Process Improvement
    • In coordination with HR, develop and refine all policies/processes for Commercial Installation including:
      • Safety standards (monthly safety meetings, safety plans, tailgate meetings, etc.)
      • Installation practices and techniques
      • Travel policy
      • Inclement weather Policy
      • Team review process (360 reviews)
      • Design of time sheet application
      • Need for and use of large company tools and purchase of specialized tools
      • Developing and tracking training programs for installers
      • Develop and review what construction-related trainings/certifications are needed
    • Construction Improvement
      • Develop and refine processes leading up to construction to ensure efficient installation
      • Provide feedback loop to Engineering for design improvement and to estimator to reflect actual accomplishments
    • Develop a recruiting and interview process to recruit and onboard qualified team members
    • Review open projects with each Superintendent and ensure project team completes outstanding project tasks, including interconnection, utility permission-to-operate, project punch list, client punch list and other closeout items as assigned
    • Ensure field team consistently updates project data and files in company’s designated project collaboration or project management apps and is highly responsive to all project communications
    • Provide regular reports to the Commercial Operations team and Estimator on key metrics including safety, quality and crew productivity for key field work tasks to improve project estimating


Qualifications:

  • 10 years’ experience in Solar Construction
  • 5 years’ experience managing teams with diverse skill sets
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration preferred or equivalent job experience
  • Strong management and leadership skills with emphasis on transparency, accountability, and fairness
  • Excellent organizational, time management, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles
  • Experience with Last Planner System®, pull planning, or other lean construction methods preferred
  • Must have OSHA 10-hour training or equivalent; OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Proficient Microsoft Office 365, Sharepoint, OneDrive, Teams
  • Knowledge of Procore, FieldWork, Kahua, eBuilder
  • Valid CA driver license with clean driving record
  • Able to type 50 wpm
