Job Summary

Patient Account Representatives perform a number of functions related to patient accounts.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primary source of information for patients via arrival or phone call with questions about a bill.
  • Answer questions, resolve problems, and assist patients with repayment terms.
  • Responsible for contacting patients who are delinquent in payment by mail, email, and/or telephone.
  • Will work in an office environment, at a computer workstation during regular business hours as part of a larger team providing excellent customer service and interdepartmental teamwork.
  • Oversee the payments to ensure patients pay on time and follow through with their new financial commitments.
  • Submit the delinquencies to collection agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital credit policies and able to explain the requirements in verbal and written form.
  • Help prepare daily deposit sheets and give to Accounts Payable for reconciliation daily.
  • Create payment plans that are acceptable to hospital policy.
  • Will be expected to collect payments and reconcile cash box.
  • Actively engage in quality improvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year customer service experience.
  • Must be skilled with ten key and computer software/applications.


Preferred Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of experience in customer service.
  • 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Spanish as a second language preferred.


Skills/Competencies

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in math.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Have a basic understanding of Medical EOB.


Physical Requirements

Perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word, perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes, extend arms and hands in any direction, seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands, pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers, perceive such attributes of objects or materials as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and stoop, kneel crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Continuous sitting, walking, and standing. Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors. Rare lifting of greater than 50 pounds.
