MCC is currently seeking a MACHINIST. Individual fabricates and repairs metal, plastic, and wood parts by operating CNC and/or mechanical equipment. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units. Uses CAD/CAM software to program and machine parts to required dimensions and tolerances. Works under immediate supervision.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Machine parts to specifications, using both CNC and conventional machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and presses
  2. ID and OD turning of complex shapes
  3. 2D and 3D milling operations
  4. Boring and reaming of holes
  5. Counter sink and counter boreholes
  6. Milling of keyways to proper depth and width
  7. Broaching of internal keyways to proper depth and width
  8. Program and generate tool paths using CAD/CAM software on a desktop computer and/or intuitive programming at the CNC machines
  9. Import and open a 3D drawing that the drafting department has generated
  10. Determine the proper toolpath to machine the part in the most efficient manner
  11. Select tooling for each operation to achieve the required tolerance and surface finish
  12. Determine proper speeds and feeds for the selected tooling
  13. Export the generated toolpath to the desired CNC machine
  14. Set the machine offsets and parameters to match the generated program
  15. Set up, align, and secure holding fixtures. (Milling, CNC, and Conventional). Determine the best method of securing the material or part to allow for safe and efficient machining
  16. Vices with standard and/or specialty jaws. This could include two or more vices at one time
  17. T-Slot nuts with step blocks or 123 blocks
  18. Specialty clamps such as Pivot Hold Down Clamps or Mitee Bite Clamps
  19. Custom fixture plates designed for accurate and repeatable work holding
  20. Indexing chuck
  21. Align all holding fixtures using dial indicators to ensure that the proper tolerance of the machined part is held
  22. Set up, align, and secure holding fixtures. (Turning, CNC, and Conventional). Determine the best method of securing the material or part to allow for safe and efficient turning
  23. 3, 4, and 6 jaw chucks
  24. Face Plates
  25. Tail stocks
  26. Steady and live rests
  27. Monitor and adjust the feeds and speeds during the machining process
  28. Ensure that the workpiece is being properly cooled or lubricated
  29. Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and surface finish gauges
  30. Maintain all machines in proper operational condition. This includes preventative maintenance and repairs performed on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
  31. Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  32. Ensuring design errors or deviations are communicated to the project manager and design team so corrections can be made and not repeated on future projects
  33. Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties
  34. Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties
  35. May be required to drive a vehicle to various job sites throughout working hours and maintain valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company policy
  36. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  37. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance

Requirements:

ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions, loud noise, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, varying fumes or odors; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; and work in ditches/excavations
  • Work at heights, such as by working on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, and tops of single and multi-story buildings, as well as working in confined spaces such as underneath single-story and multi-story buildings
  • Must be able to perform manual and repetitive tasks and body movements including climbing, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, walking, standing, and carrying; moving materials and manipulating things
  • Must be able to work in overhead structures and around and beneath machinery
  • Considerable physical effort of hands and arms required; the employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 75lbs
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities
  • Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner
  • This position is subject to ergonomic testing

This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position because it includes as part of the job duties operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces. This position is one in which a lapse of attention could result in injury, illness, or death. For the safety of the employee and others, the employee must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time while

operating a motor vehicle, operating, maintaining, and monitoring heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • May be required to meet certain certifications in the field and to have at least 5 years of experience
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the machining field.
  • Will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Knowledge of production processes, raw materials, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of goods
  • Must possess strong mathematical, mechanical, and technical skills
  • Able to study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, or engineering information to determine methods or sequences of operations needed to fabricate products
  • All employees must provide and maintain the required tool inventory for this position
  • Ability to solve problems and think critically
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to complete daily tasks with limited supervision and minimal errors requiring re-work
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and non-standard schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays as/if required
  • A current valid driver’s license is required
