The Regional Chief Financial Officer of Surgery Partner’s Optim, Great Falls & Omaha Region directs the region’s financial departments, allocation of resources, and preparation of the annual budget.  Responsible for region-wide Accounting, Reimbursement, Managed Care, Health Information, and Utilization Review in partnership with corporate leaders.  The Regional Chief Financial Officer is responsible to the Group CFO and maintains business partnership with the region’s Senior Vice President (SVP) of Operations and corporate functional leaders.  

The Optim, Great Falls & Omaha Region is part of the Surgery Partners National Group and consists of 2 Surgical Hospitals, 2 Critical Access Hospitals, 2 Ambulatory Surgery Centers, and several multi-specialty clinics across Georgia, Montana and Nebraska.  The region provides 40,000+ surgical cases annually.  Notable service line offerings include Cardiology, Open Heart and Oncology.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Partners with operating and financial leadership at Surgery Partner’s surgical hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to develop and achieve budgeted Adjusted EBITDA growth bringing strong financial discipline and actionable business intelligence to the President of the National Group, National Group CFO, Regional SVP’s and Facility Leadership.  
  • Leads analysis and discovery of methods to reduce hospital operating costs and increasing revenue based on knowledge of financial performance, local market trends and operating procedures.
  • Oversees and directs budgeting, audit, and accounting.
  • Partners with the SVP of Operations to improve operational performance.
  • Partners with corporate leaders in Revenue Cycle, Supply Chain, Managed Care, Business Development and Physician Practice Management to implement near-term and long-term strategies.
  • Partners in development of long and short range hospital operations plans which may include service demand analysis, resource availability analysis, productivity and cost benefit analysis of proposed capital and staff expansions.
  • Direct preparation of financial reports, ensuring reports reliably reflect the financial position of the hospital.
  • Direct timely submission of financial data required by government and other regulatory agencies
  • Maintain charge master accuracy
  • Direct review of contracts, purchase agreements, and other financial arrangements necessary
  • Develops data-driven analysis of revenue and cost drivers and makes actionable recommendations to ensure appropriate income/cash flow.  
  • Partner with SVP, corporate leaders (including IT) in data management including new database implementation, software upgrades and influence or provide input on data access and analytics needs
  • Assures implementation of internal controls and generally accepted accounting procedures accounting, consistent with those required for SEC-registered companies.  
  • Lead adoption of regional CFO structure in place, positioning the team for performance and strong partnership with Regional Senior Vice Presidents

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in an acute care Hospital CFO Role required.
  • Significant experience with:
    • Financial/accounting management across inpatient acute care and outpatient facilities
    • Leadership in monthly operating reviews, budgeting and forecasting through in-depth financial analysis
    • Demonstrated strong executive presence with ability to lead financial performance through operational and strategic influence
    • Leadership in change management to drive hospital performance
  • Appreciation for SEC-registered company financial and control requirements.

 

Other Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • MBA preferred
  • CPA preferred, SOX experience will be beneficial
  • Travel up to 50% requred
  • Preferred Leadership Skills:
    • Knowledge of the principles of financial management sufficient to direct professional staff and coordinate all aspects involved with fiscal requirements.  
    • Knowledge of governmental and health care fiscal regulations and reporting requirements.   
    • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve objectives.  
    • Skill in evaluating operations as they relate to policies, goals and objectives, costs, and rate levels.  
    • Ability to create an atmosphere that encourages motivation, innovation, and high performance.  
    • Ability to delegate responsibility and authority to staff.  
    • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
