Job Description

Essential job functions include but are not limited to:

· Artificial Insemination of sow

· Heat and pregnancy checks

· Treat and vaccinate pigs

· Organize and delegate daily/weekly workflow schedule

· Plan and execute departmental and overall farm goals and targets

· Exhibit proficiency in all departmental, sow unit skill sets needed for a specific department

· Oversee proper nutrition, welfare, and medical treatment for all animals

· Optimize productivity through management of gilt entry, cull matrices, breed planning, and wean schedules.

· Train, develop, and mentor farm staff

· Accurately record data and utilize sophisticated computer software to generate statistical reports

· Possess basic mechanical skills needed to perform routine maintenance of facility

Personal Characteristics:

· Exhibit strong math and computer skills

· Demonstrate communication, organizational, and leadership skills

· Have the ability to thrive in a fast paced and ever-changing environment

· Possess a reliable, dependable, and motivated personality

· Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and employee development

· Willingness to relocate is a plus

· Flexibility to work every third weekend and additional hours as needed

· Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time

· Ability to stoop, bend, and lift fifty pounds

· Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Education and Related Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or related field is preferred, but not required
  • At least 2 years of management experience
  • Experience working in a large-scale sow production facility
