Experience:

  • Registration with the American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) (or within 12 months of hire into the department).
  • Must maintain licensure in State of Mississippi (Required)

Education:

  • Associates Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field preferred.
  • Registration with the American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) (or within 12 months of hire into the department).

Position Summary:

Responsible for using ultrasound equipment to help visualize internal anatomy functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use sonographic equipment to identify and observe the area(s) of concern.
  • Report to the appropriate medical staff of any abnormalities that require immediate attention.
  • Maintain sonography equipment and report machinery failure.
  • Conduct scan tests and write reports based on the results.
  • Manage several patients and priorities.
  • Work under minimal supervision and cooperate with other team members.
  • Send images to PACS for Radiologist interpretation.
  • Document in the patient chart in a timely manner.
  • Subject to irregular hours.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment as directed.
  • Follow infection control and isolation guidelines.
  • Adhere to all hospital polices and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

The Sonographer must have the ability to move around freely, walk and stand for long periods of time; use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired; use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls; bend or twist their body; understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand; and see details of objects that are less than a few feet away and at a distance.
