Description:Certified Medical Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:

Call patients back for office examination/consult, take vitals and input pertinent medical information into the EHR or verify information for established patients. Arrange examining-room instruments and equipment. Assist physician with procedures. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as ordered or per standard protocol. Order patient testing as directed. Give patient injections as ordered. Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies, and sterilize medical instruments, maintain supplies and equipment, and keep examining rooms neat and clean.

Essential Functions, Duties & Abilities

· Perform medical assisting procedures under supervision of physician.

· Assist physician in exam rooms.

· Escort patient to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, and bladder scan and document all information in patient's EMR.

· Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician.

· Insure all related reports, labs and information available in patient's chart prior to their appointment.

· Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required.

· Take telephone messages and provided feedback and answers to patient/pharmacy/physician calls.

· Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians.

· Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change, etc.)

· Maintains patient confidentiality and follows HIPPA Guidelines

  • Healthcare field and medical specialty.

Education and Experience

· Washington State Department of Health Certified Medical Assistant.

Preferred Qualification

· Medical Assistant Certification, and one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.

· General understanding of medical terminology, as it relates to the urological field, preferred.

· Knowledgeable and proficient in computer applications, with the ability to learn new software programs and expand knowledge on new computer system.

· Professional attitudes sufficient to demonstrate honest, ethical and compassionate behavior, take responsibility for own actions and be forthright about errors or uncertainty, display flexibility, function effectively under stress, adapt to changing environments, and function as an active, cooperative member of the health care team.

· Experience with EPIC software preferred but not essential.

· Efficient at multi-tasking.

· Team player that can work well on own without constant supervision.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a fast-paced, high volume, office environment. It is necessary to type and view computer screens for long periods. Work involves frequent contact with staff members, physicians, and other professionals. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Must be able to work with minimal supervision with the ability to problem solve and make sound decisions. Occasional evening and weekend work.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

· Work may require sitting for extended periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching.

· Work may be stressful at times.

· Must be able to lift 20 pounds at a time.

· Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, operate a calculator, telephone, facsimile machine, photocopier, and other office equipment as necessary.

· Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight.
