JOB SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the DON or Administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for managing the clinical care of residents by assigning different tasks to nurses within the department ensuring nursing care is provided through assessment, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Makes frequent rounds to note resident/patient conditions and to ensure nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
Gives and receives the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
Ensures assigned work area (i.e. nurse station, med. Cart, medication room, etc.), resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
Ensures medication rooms and medication carts are locked according to regulation.
Monitors supplies and orders as needed.
Attends regularly conducted staff meetings as scheduled by the DON/Administrator.
Manages and participates regularly in continuing education in-service programs.
Assists the Director of Nursing in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
Manages the clinical care of residents by assigning different tasks to nurses within the department.
Participates in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
Assists in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents’ total regimen of care.
Ensures that all nursing services personnel comply with their respective job descriptions.
Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance quality improvement program for the nursing service department.
Participates in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services.
Assists the DON in planning the nursing services portion of the resident’s discharge plan as necessary.
Provides staff training to nursing department members, residents and/or family members on policies and procedures as directed by the DON.
Notifies the resident’s attending physician and next-of-kin when there is a change in the resident’s condition.
Ensures that counts for controlled drugs policies are followed.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited College or University.
Possess a current license to practice in the State as an RN
3+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
Long-Term Care experience preferred.
