Responsibilities:

SUMMARY

It is the responsibility of the Safety Supervisor to support the West Jefferson, OH plant management team with initiatives related to providing safe and healthy work environment as well as ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

 

This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to food safety & quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

 

ACITIVITIES

  1. Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adheres to all safety policies/procedures and incorporates safety and health in all job’s duties/tasks.
  2. Adheres to safe work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports any conditions or practices that may adversely affect employee safety or food safety/quality to management immediately.
  3. Attends and actively participates in safety meetings/trainings.
  4. Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.
  5. In cooperation with Operations and HR Manager, leads Element 1 and acts as technical resource for all other SRMP teams.
  6. Identifies employee safety training needs with and develops/updates training materials.
  7. Identifies unsafe work conditions/practices through workplace audits and takes appropriate action to eliminate these conditions and behaviors.
  8. Maintains/monitors investigation, record keeping and follow up regarding all workplace accidents.
  9. Ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations (standards) as well as other governmental agencies.
  10. Works with workers compensation carrier as well as third party providers to ensure cost effective and appropriate handling of all workers compensation claims.
  11. Determines requirements as associated with personal protective equipment (PPE).
  12. Maintains and updates all written safety programs.
  13. Supports the entire management team in administering appropriate and consistent disciplinary actions for violation of safety rules and policy.
  14. Schedules and coordinates required industrial safety testing and monitoring.
  15. Participates in companywide safety and training teams.
  16. Actively supports other team members in their efforts to support facilities safety and health programs.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years experience in workplace safety role.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal safety compliance and regulatory issues, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Certifications listed below preferred but not required.

  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA 501, OSHA 511 AND OR OSHA 521

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.  Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, fractions, ratios.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
