Overall Objectives of Position
The Medical Assistant is responsible for creating and maintaining the master clinic schedule in the department data system (BMW) and collaborate with all areas of the Primary Care Clinic to ensure patient and provider schedules flow efficiently. The Medical Assistant also functions as a medical secretary to the Chief Physician/CMO. This job description is not an all–inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Medical Assistant is expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs.
The Medical Assistant is expected to live the Purpose and Values of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and will go beyond the call of duty.

Primary Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant
Performs administrative assistant/secretarial duties using specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures for the Chief Physician/CMO.
Coordinates administrative schedule with patient appointment schedule for the Chief Physician/CMO and other medical providers.
Performs changes to the master clinic schedule as directed by the Director-Nursing, Chief Physician/CMO or Revenue Director.
Performs Medical Assistant Duties that may include working directly with the Chief Physician/CMO performing the following duties: Scribe/maintaining and documenting in electronic health records, Phlebotomy, preparing and administering injections, obtaining vitals, cleaning and preparing exam rooms, obtaining prior authorizations for procedures and diagnostics, completing required patient forms and/or paperwork, scanning and linking correspondence.
Filling in as needed in other departments within the Health Clinic, including Employee Clinic and Native Wind Clinic.
Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.

Education/License/Certification and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Medical Assistant certification required.
Five (5) years of employment experience as Medical Assistant required.
Experience in EMR/EHR software required.
Must maintain current professional licensure in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain licensure within ninety (90) days of date of hire.
Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain certification during the first week of employment.
Skills Required
Absolute confidentiality, adhering to HIPAA and the Privacy Act.
Must have working knowledge of computers with the ability to work in a Windows environment with various software programs such as Word, Excel, etc.
Ability to record information concisely and accurately.
Demonstrate excellent customer service.
Demonstrate proficiency in English, spelling, punctuation, and basic writing skills.
Ability to communicate verbally in a tactful effective manner.
Must be people oriented and relate well to people from diverse backgrounds.
Knowledge of medical terminology required.
Additional Requirements
Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed; flexible regarding accommodating emergency visits as needed.
Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
Must travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
Ability to adequately and successfully perform all duties and responsibilities of this position.
