Sous Chef (Duties)



  • Prepares and serves all food items and meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes ensuring all meals and food prepared are palatable and appetizing.

  • Assists in food preparation for special meals, parties, events, etc.

  • Inspects special diet requests and orders to assure that the correct diet is being served.

  • Prepares and serves substitute foods to residents who refuse foods served. Make only authorized food substitutions and consult with and advise Dining Services Director on menu changes.

  • Prepares food and serves in accordance with sanitary regulations, as well as with established policies and procedures. Reports any incidents or infractions to Dining Services Director.

  • Ensures that food storage areas are always clean and properly arranged.

  • Assists, when requested, in the purchasing of food and supplies. Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies.

  • Properly labels, dates and stores all food leftovers.

  • Assists in inventory and storing in-coming food, supplies, etc., as necessary.

  • Assists in serving meals, as necessary.

  • Records temperatures of coolers and freezers as required by company policy.

  • Responsible for all cleaning tasks.

  • Ensures that the next days items are in stock and pulled and thawing under refrigeration as dictated by the menus.

  • Plans the timing of food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that quality, temperature and appearance of food are preserved.

  • Maintains control over meal portions and food consistency. Estimates food requirements and controls serving portions thereby eliminating waste and leftovers. Responsible for the safe storage and efficient use of all items within the kitchens inventory.

  • Responsible for set-up of carts to be delivered to resident dining areas.

  • Displays professionalism and friendliness when dealing with residents, families and visitors.




Sous Chef (Qualifications)



  • Obtain and maintain a valid Serv Safe permit

  • First Aid/CPR preferred

  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations related to health and safety in food preparation

  • Minimum two years of food preperation experience

  • Positive and cheerful disposition
