ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

1. REPORTS TO:                                        Captains – Operations Director

Field Staff must work closely and cohesively with the Lieutenants, Captains, Operations Director, Human Resources Director, and Executive Director in the delivery of the overall operations of Marble Falls Area EMS.

Additionally, the position of Field Staff involves maintaining a positive working relationship with co-workers, Board of Directors, local officials, community groups and organizations, the public, as well as federal, state, and local emergency responders relating to emergency medical services.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • providing skilled emergency and non-emergency medical services and rescue activities for the MFAEMS service area by responding to emergency medical calls, fire safety assists, hazardous material incidents, and rescue scenes to save lives and reduce morbidity;
  • maintaining emergency medical vehicles, equipment, apparatus, and facilities to ensure operational readiness;
  • assisting with coordination of specialized programs such as safety, disaster response, logistics, special operations, training, public education, advanced medical assistance, mentoring, quality improvement, volunteer agency coordination, and mass casualty management;
  • ensuring personnel safety and accountability;
  • required training;
  • assisting leadership to ensure that the delivery of services is in compliance with MFAEMS policies and procedures and following all emergency medical services regulations and protocols;
  • safely operating emergency ambulances and other light duty emergency medical response vehicles;
  • assuming incident command or leadership position as required for management of emergency scenes including those involving multiple patients or complex rescues;
  • responding as needed during off duty and emergent periods;
  • filling in for Captains and Lieutenants when necessary; engaging in provision of advanced life support pre-hospital patient care as needed; does related work as required.
  • assessing, evaluating, and requesting resources needed during emergency operations;
  • working with all officers of the paid and volunteer fire departments command structure during fire safety assist and hazardous materials response activities;
  • working with all officers of the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies during mass casualty, hazardous materials, and drug task force responses;
  • performing patient care as needed;
  • assists in scheduling and assigning MFAEMS resources to meet department objectives; and
  • assists the Command Team in:
  • training, QA/QI
  • development and implementation of training programs;
  • development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures;
  • development and implementation of medical scope of practice;
  • evaluating the effectiveness of EMS activities and developing and implementing plans for improved operations; 
  • maintenance and repairs of EMS vehicles and property; 
  • conferring with city, county, elected officials and representatives of the emergency services community on matters of mutual interest;

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: 

Field Staff must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and to pull, push or drag up to 50 pounds of materials and supplies. Field Staff are required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.  Field Staff must use eyes, ears, hands, and fingers to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.  There is a possibility of severe injury or loss of life during the performance of duties.  The job of field staff is performed both indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAINING:

The position of Field Staff requires a comprehensive knowledge of emergency medical service, including but not limited to organizational procedures, technical and operating principles, best practices, and the common problems related to EMS and disaster activities.

Field Staff must have a complete familiarity with local ordinances and with state and federal laws relating to EMS operations.  Field Staff must have the mental acuity and experience to enable him/her to plan, assign, coordinate and conduct the varied work and functions within an EMS department.

In emergency situations, the field staff must have the ability to exercise good judgment; to coordinate the work of subordinates; to react calmly and quickly; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local government officials as well as other city departments and the public.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. A valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
  3. Texas EMT-B, AEMT, or Paramedic certification
  4. NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800
