Position Overview:

The Electrical Engineer is the site subject matter expert (SME) for site electrical systems. All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company.

The Electrical Engineer is also an integral part of ensuring our capital projects are utilizing and adhering to our site standards and specifications.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform examinations of work areas and monitor compliance with MSHA regulations and company policies.
  • Review and optimize existing site standards/specifications.
  • Work with site electricians and contractors to ensure adequate standard operating procedures are being used/followed.
  • Work with stakeholders of projects and operations to ensure systems being purchased and installed are in compliance with site-adopted standards and specifications.
  • Work with the MP Process Engineering, Process Controls, and Maintenance teams to diagnose electrical issues impacting the process and the power distribution system.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and coordinate repair of motors, MCC, Switchgear, and supporting equipment (480V, 12kV) with the MP Maintenance team and suppliers including the replacement and adjustment of components, integral units, motors, controls, and other integral instruments as needed.
  • Work with the MP Projects team, as the site electrical SME, to provide input and clarifications for capital projects. This includes review of project specifications, P&IDs, Single-Line Diagrams, grounding drawings, electrical equipment datasheets, equipment location drawings, motor schematics, cable schedules, panel schedules, coordination studies, and lighting drawings as required to ensure consistency across our site. This further includes participation in weekly project meetings with suppliers, participating in design reviews, acceptance testing, HAZOP meetings, responding to Requests for Information (RFI), approving deviation requests, performing technical bid evaluations, start-up and commissioning support, and ensure the projects are following the site standards and adopted site standards.
  • Work to organize and update electrical documentation in the site document management system.
  • Work with vendors to ensure up-to-date power system model.
  • Work with site power generating team to ensure optimal operating parameters and best practices are followed.
  • Work with site maintenance team to optimize routine testing and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for electrical equipment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or relevant technical degree is required.
  • 10+ year industrial plant electrical design, maintenance, and operations experience.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and industry specifications.
  • Strong understanding of electrical maintenance work processes practices and a general knowledge of electrical systems repair, project execution, and construction/installation techniques.
  • Experience with 12kV infrastructure.

Desired Qualities:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and safety system design in a chemical operating facility (chlor-alkali experience a big plus).
  • Experience with software for electrical design, analysis, and simulation of power systems.
  • Experience with power distribution systems.
  • Ability to work in teams with strong collaboration skills.
  • Experience with Asset Management Systems.
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn new duties.
  • Ability to complete a task with minimal supervision.
  • Valid Driver’s License required to drive company vehicles on property.

The expected pay rate is $150,000-$180,000. The actual pay rate offered may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to experience, knowledge, skills, and/or location.

Employee must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C.
