Job Description
  1. Supervises all employees in his or her area on his or her shift.
  2. Develops and implements daily execution processes throughout the department utilizing training, monitoring, and the evaluation of the department's employees.
  3. Implements strategic and tactical objectives that support all shipping goals.
  4. Reviews the production schedules with the Shipping Manager to plan department operations.
  5. Reports any process or equipment problems. Works with the Shipping Manager to make sure all areas are properly aligned.
  6. Ensures that established policies, rules, regulations, and procedures are followed.
  7. Strives for continuous improvement within the department.
  8. Troubleshoots daily issues and takes corrective actions to ensure standards and all shipping service needs are met.
  9. Supervises all shipping and receiving employees' to ensure key performance areas including productivity and quality are at or above targeted levels.
  10. Provides leadership and maintain a department wide team attitude environment.
  11. Works with his or her leads and employees in training, performance management, and motivation.
  12. Identifies shipping and receiving opportunities and develops improvement methods and procedures.
  13. Works with Shipping Manager to determine needs and or issues relating to his or her area.
  14. Coordinates with opposing shift any issues that may arise.
  15. Maintains and advises operations in headcount matters for the department based on production levels.
  16. Conducts discipline and investigations as needed.
  17. Manages inventory management and cycle counting activities.
  18. Presence in the workplace is an essential function of this job.
Additional Functions:
  1. Work cooperatively with operators and other team members.
  2. Prioritize projects.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience, preferably in a shipping environment.
  • Training and safety experience highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership abilities. Excellent people skills.
  • Strong communication skills, especially between all shifts.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language for safety purposes in an understandable manner.
  • Solid analytical abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows, Excel, and Word.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Fourth Shift or the ability to learn it.
Working Conditions:

Our production environment is typical for wood manufacturing and includes a variety of environmental elements including loud noise, dust and aromas. While this is an indoor operation, temperatures will vary with the outdoor temperature and some areas of the shop may be hot or cold. Worker may be subject to vibration. Worker is subject to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles and/or heat.

Physical Requirements:

Production positions are physically demanding and may be strenuous. They are standing positions and include frequent walking, lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. There are a lot of body movements, including extending arms, grasping with hands and flexing of wrists. There may be a lot of bending and twisting. Each position requires ongoing rotations of movements and workers must have the physicality to perform the essential functions. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push or pull up to 150 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
