Pay: $24.26 - $27.69 hourly (*Pay range does not include (5) additional longevity steps beyond top of range.)

FTE: Part-time 40 hours a week during peak season (April-December). Occasional planned overtime as needed at one and half times hourly rate. Position is subject to seasonal layoff.

Schedule: Wednesday- Saturday; 10 Hr. Shift

Location: 4587 Ridgeview Rd, Duluth, MN - Materials Recovery Center

Our Mission. The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) is committed to preventing pollution and protecting the environment, including the region's most precious resource - Lake Superior. WLSSD treats all municipal and industrial sewage in the Duluth-Cloquet area.

Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, WLSSD provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota.

Join Our Team! WLSSD is seeking a part-time, seasonal Transfer Station Attendant (TSA) to join our team in Duluth, MN. The qualified candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a minimum of two years' verifiable customer service experience, including at least one year of cashier or money handling experience.

Qualified candidates must possess at least one year experience in the operation of trucks, loaders, forklifts, or other heavy equipment.


What are some things you will be doing in this job?

As a TSA you will play a crucial role in supporting the Material Recovery Center site. The work includes operation of various material handling equipment, inspecting customers' loads and communicating with both internal and external customers.  


  • Responsible for safe operation of heavy equipment at the Material Recovery Center and/or the compost site
  • Greets and assesses visitors' items and communicate disposal/recycling instructions
  • Completes monetary transactions for the solid waste collection facilities
  • Performs various assigned duties associated with the site's stormwater permit
  • Organize and maintain work areas
  • Follow safe work practices
  • Answer questions about WLSSD programs and refer customers to alternative disposal options
  • Work outside and don't mind a little Duluth weather!

No prospective employee will be asked to submit to testing unless an offer of employment has been made.
