Director of Event Management

$100,000 + Bonus, Commensurate with experience

 

Job Description: The Director of Event Management is responsible for overseeing the entire events department.  This includes directing, training and managing the event team to achieve budgeted revenue goals while providing strong leadership and maintaining company standards.

 

The Director of Event Management demonstrates outstanding leadership coupled with sales skills.  He/she will have the proven ability to develop a strong team, produce revenue for the hotel, and uphold high personal performance standards.  This individual should display strong analytical, organizational, and administrative skills with attention to detail, leading by example.  The Director must be a hands-on manager who is a creative, innovative self-starter who has the ability to analyze and resolve any challenges.

 

Overall Responsibilities Include:

  • Set standards and procedures for the events team when it comes to booking, detailing and executing events.  Responsible for ensuring that team follows set SOPs.
  • Book and detail VIP events which requires acting as the liaison between the hotel operations team and group contacts to ensure a smooth and successful event. Maintain overnight room blocks, catering, audiovisual, set up requirements.
  • Create quarterly goals for each team member to include soliciting social business as well as projects that target specific areas within their job roles.  Oversee catering team’s day to day performance to ensure associates are following company standards as well as providing guidance and mentoring to catering team. 
  • Manage catering office to include monthly schedules and time off requests to ensure proper coverage.  Create an office atmosphere that motivates and encourages associates to perform to the best of their ability, encouraging growth and cross-training.
  • Resolicit business and prospect for new clients while developing and maintaining all account relationships.
  • Fully manage the development and execution of all hotel produced special events
  • Prepare, implement, and compile data for catering marketing plan, annual goals, forecasts, pace, and other reports as directed and/or required.
  • Participate in tradeshows, client events, and represent the hotel at local/regional networking events.  Participate in sales blitzes and outside sales calls.
  • Work with the marketing department on annual marketing plans specific to publications, website, and social media development to ensure marketing budget is maximized. 
  • Work with the food and beverage director to create annual food and beverage minimums, site fees and pricing.  Assist culinary team with all menu and package developments.
  • Update CRM platforms with menu updates in pricing, package information etc. Ensure packages are allocated properly.

 

Job Requirements:  Bachelor's Degree preferred; however, any combination of education and training within hotel sales may also be considered. Minimum 5 years hotel/catering sales preferred in a property of 200 rooms or more. Experience in a 4-diamond, branded facility preferred.
