Salary:

BC US LLC was established in 2012 near Immokalee Florida, approximately 40 miles due east of Naples Florida. The site serves as a breeding, holding, and quarantine facility for Mauritian origin macaques. Together with our high-level care and enrichment programs, we ensure that the company oversees a program of the highest standards providing non-human primate models for life-saving biomedical research programs to pharmaceutical companies, CRO’s as well as Universities.

We are currently looking for a Laboratory Manager to join our growing team in Immokalee, FL!

 

The Lab Manager is responsible for the overall laboratory performance and execution of the laboratory processes. The ideal candidate can perform bacteriological cultures and interpret the results as well as do antimicrobial sensitivity tests, water testing, and microscopy for ova and parasites.

 

Microbiology and microscopy technical knowledge are a must.

 

The Lab Manager will need to supervise, train, and validate the tests performed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care for the NHP
  • Provides operational management and oversight of laboratory animal staff, facilities, and activities
  • Develop standard procedures to improve workflows and processes
  • Prepare and process documentation and reports, involving writing, reviewing, and analyzing data
  • Perform or review quality, design, and performance checks on instruments to ensure equipment is functioning properly
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and crisis management when problems arise
  • Scheduling staff, encouraging mentoring relationships, and providing training so lab staff learn from experienced professionals
  • Manage up the corporate ladder, ensuring that your plans align with senior management’s priorities
  • Identify technical and scientific objectives for your department that align with the organization’s strategic plan and mission; implement plans to achieve those goals
  • Maintain awareness of governmental regulations and how they affect daily decisions in the laboratory
  • Maintain GLPs in the lab and ensure proper disposal of lab wastes as per the rules applicable.
  • Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve procedures, processes, and/or efficiency
  • Develops and maintains operating procedures and guidelines for animal care staff and facility users
  • Collecting, preparing, and analyzing specimens and samples, such as fecal samples, blood, and serum.
  • Prepare samples for shipment for clients or outside laboratories following all health and safety guidelines, shipping regulations, and requirements.
  • Ensures compliance per IACUC and other regulatory agencies
  • Develop and enforce procedures to ensure current and continued compliance with regulations

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or any other health science with 3 -5 years experience in a similar position required
  • A Master’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or any other health science with 2 -3 years experience in a similar position preferred
  • Expert knowledge of laboratory health and safety protocols.
  • Proven skill in animal handling and restraint across common laboratory animal species; basic bio-methodology, including blood collection and injections; and general animal husbandry

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the employee must be able work from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM and/or on weekends and holidays as needed
