SUMMARY

The Systems Engineer II is responsible for all functions relating to the maintenance, installation, configuration and operation of technology infrastructures. The candidate must be an experienced technologist with a proven track record of hands-on network/hardware experience.

REQUIREMENTS

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of circuits for multiple providers.
  • Create and maintain all facets of Microsoft environments with strong emphasis on best practices.
  • Work directly with vendor contacts to resolve technical problems affecting the delivery of applications and services and/or uptime related to software/application solutions, servers, SAN technology, storage and peripheral equipment.
  • Identify & troubleshoot server configuration and/or performance irregularities. Develop procedures to respond to these irregularities in a timely manner.
  • Ensure entire infrastructure is properly monitored and alerts (regarding infrastructure interruptions and outages) are addressed in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Provide oversight and escalation support for helpdesk. Oversee the execution and completion of assigned tasks.
  • Provide technical direction and recommendations for infrastructure hardware/software and related technologies.
  • Maintain and participate in on-call support schedule, primarily involving only mission-critical infrastructure outside normal business hours.
  • Work with Desktop Support and Networking staff to determine and resolve high level problems
  • Escalation / on-call responsibilities are required as part of this position
  • Functions as an informal team lead and mentor to other team members
  • Other duties as requested
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related experience preferred
  • The ability to lift and handle packages/hardware weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Strong knowledge and experience in server, network and application performance monitoring, problem resolution, planning and execution
  • Leadership experience a plus

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Domestic travel within California required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

  • VMware implementation and management
  • Exchange Server and Office 365, Windows Active Directory, including network design, implementation, domain migration, Exchange Server migrations
  • Managed firewalls in HA pair configurations (FortiGate a bonus)
  • Unix/Linux, SaaS and IaaS technologies, Apple/Mac technologies
  • Experience with backup tools, image builds and server recovery

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE OR CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • SAN
  • Citrix, Terminal Server
  • Cybersecurity
  • VMware (VCP 5 cert is bonus) and/or HyperV
  • MCSE/MCITP
  • CCNA or CCNP
  • Exchange 20XX
  • Office 365
  • VMware ESXi / VCenter / VSphere experience
  • Active Directory with experience setting up multisite environments
  • DNS creation and troubleshooting
  • Cisco switch and router experience
  • Site to site routing
  • Group policy
  • Strong knowledge of DHCP/DNS/WINS/FTP
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP

FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proficient with managing and prioritizing multiple projects
  • Ability to partner with customers and hardware/software partners
  • Strong communications skills and ability to impart information about technology services to prospects and clients
  • Very good organizational skills for internal responsibilities and project management with clients
  • Proactively identify potential problems and adjust schedules, timelines and service accordingly
  • Manage own projects and prioritizes tasks according to deliverables
  • Understand and contribute to the big picture while staying focused on the day-to-day tasks and agendas of the team
  • Advanced networking skills including traffic shaping and design (prefer Meraki, Dell and Cisco experience)
  • Well organized project management skills are a must
  • Proven leadership ability to motivate and distribute tasks to co-workers in a team-oriented environment
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail

  1. Category I – Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.
  2. Category II – Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.
  3. Category III – Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.
