JOB PURPOSE:

The Director of Youth Development & Outreach will work under the direction of the Director of Youth Equity and will manage the overall operations of the YMCA afterschool program (Y Club) and our summer camp program, to support the work of the Noble County Family YMCA. Will direct all aspects of the afterschool and summer program, childcare compliance, plan and execute daily curriculum, manage staff, assist with food program and provide programs that fosters the physical, emotional, and spiritual growth of each child in the program. This position is expected to be available to during high programming times including school days out, summer, and school breaks.

As a director, this staff will seek to create an environment where youth and staff thrive, ensuring the safety of the those enrolled while creating an engaging and innovative menu of programming. This role will be responsible for maintaining compliance of childcare licensing, lesson planning, scheduling, day-to-day family communication, and addressing the physical and behavioral needs of youth in our care. The overall goal for this position is to create meaningful program experiences for youth, families, and partners by leading a strong program, developing & managing staff and volunteer teams, and building relationships throughout their programs to engage participants in a greater sense of community. This staff will also be responsible for assisting with the Tim Hight Food Program to provide nutritional support for programs and families in the community. These programs are seasonal and subject to state and federal grant funding.

Requirements:

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

Required

· Associates Degree, CDA, or equivalent experience

· 21 years of age or older

• Minimum 2 years related program and management experience.

• Volunteer or Staff supervision experience.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS).

• Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification.

• Knowledge of childcare licensing (DHS), requirements and guidelines

• 2 years’ experience working with school-aged youth

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plan and develop programming outline, including curricula, schedule, staffing plans, and equipment needs.
  2. Working with the Director of Youth Equity, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding mentors & role models (staff).
  3. Ensure DHS & STARS (QRIS) compliance for all areas of programming.
  4. Maintain channels of communication with families and parents, responding in timely and appropriate manners, and promoting family engagement.
  5. Address behavioral challenges in a trauma-informed nature (per training) and maintain documentation of interventions.
  6. Work with partners to deliver specialty programming.
  7. Carry out any additional measures to ensure program quality, student, and staff experience.
  8. Communicate with front desk and other departments about scheduling or other considerations,
  9. Create rosters and daily schedules for daily programming, maintaining records of attendance and activities.
  10. Provide support to the Tim Hight Food Program
  11. Develop rapport and high expectations with staff based on YMCA core values, integrity, and accountability.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High level of concentration and aptitude for learning wide variety of program information
  • Physically able to move to and around facility as well as off-site locations, sometimes on short notice.
  • Physically able to lift 35+ pounds occasionally.
  • Physically able to spend extended amount of time outdoors and/or leading activities with youth.
  • Physically able to sit at a computer station for extended periods of time
  • Ability to speak distinctly to communicate with customers and staff on the phone or in person
  • Patience to deal with 5 or more people at the same time
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills for dealing with daily issues in a variety of situations.
