Position: Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach

General Functions:

The YMCA Certified Personal Trainer is responsible to promote and provide a safe and high-quality personal training experience for all individuals and small group personal training participants in a fun environment. The YMCA fitness coach is responsible to ensure the safety of all participants and observers in the Wellness enter, while maintaining a clean and fun environment. Fitness Coach is responsible for the instruction, supervision and safety of all members utilizing the facility. Exceptional customer service and ability to develop relationships with members that will lead to personal training clients is a priority.

Job Segments:

Ensures that daily care of members, teens and families is a key priority through supervision of the wellness center in accordance with the organization's policies, mission and applicable laws.

  1. Encourage members to return equipment, use the equipment as appropriate, and train them if they have questions
  2. Greet each member and check on them as needed throughout their workout offering a spot, encouragement or a listening ear.
  3. Discuss personal training options with members and work to recruit them as a client.
  4. Work a minimum of 16 hours per week as Fitness Coach in the Wellness Center, during which you will be available to conduct Smart Start & Fit 101, Teen 101 & Teen 101 for members.
  5. Lead personal training sessions purchased by members. Administer personal training demonstrations to new members as a way to encourage their purchasing additional personal training packages.
  6. Ensure Wellness Center members are safe, equipment is clean, and in good working order.
  7. Notify supervisor if any equipment is in disrepair.

Qualifications:

A YMCA Certified Personal Trainer is required to have a good understanding of physical fitness, exercise science, exercise techniques, group/small group leadership and experience in any specialized program they may lead.

  1. Current personal trainer certification by an NCCA accredited personal training program is required.
  2. First aid/CPR/AED certification is also required. Other YMCA specific training to be completed within the first 6 months of employment.

Physical Demands:

The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of his job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of indoor settings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but ay grow loud in a group exercise environment.
