Required Education and Experience for Clinician – LMHP-E; Resident in Counseling

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling for clinical supervision working toward licensure.
  • One year experience working with identified population served preferred. Eligible to register as an LMHP-E with the VA Board of Counseling within three months of hire.

Required Education and Experience for Clinician – LMHP

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and licensure in the State of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.
  • One year of program specific work experience or relevant education, which indicates the individual possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Position Summary

The Emergency Services Clinician / Licensed Mental Health Professional will respond to requests from Horizon and the community for crisis intervention services, including limited-term crisis stabilization, mobile crisis intervention, information and referral to community resources, and/or pre-admission screening for inpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment. This position will also develop working relationships with area schools, social services, law enforcement and other community partners; by actively providing consultation, support and education.

Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy. Knowledge of the principles, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse. Skill to analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate response or techniques. Skills to communicate effectively in order to facilitate treatment and relay information to others to work as a team. Skill to perform clinical interviews in order to obtain information and to formulate appropriate treatment plans. Ability to present and communicate finding related to consumers to both internal and external audiences. Ability to develop and maintain therapeutic relationships. Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community. Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner. Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required. Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to clients at other locations. Regular attendance at training and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites.
