Barton International is a well-established, family-owned business producing the world's highest-quality garnet abrasives and has been doing so for more than six generations. Barton began mining and milling operations in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York in 1878.


Barton is currently seeking a Millwright for the year-round North Creek, NY operation.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Performs advanced repairs, maintenance, fabrication and installation of machinery and mechanical equipment, such as electric motors, gear reduction units, pumps, conveyor systems, fans and blowers, bucket elevators, and a variety of production machines and equipment. Repairs must be completed in accordance with engineer's diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine specifications and work procedures. Determines dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Shop and field fabrications to replace worn or damaged equipment, guards, chutes, pipes; and support new equipment installations using fabrication equipment such as oxyacetylene torch, drills, band saw, grinder, welder and waterjet.
  • Plans and constructs foundations for machines; installs and aligns machines and equipment, safe use of hoists, jacks, and other rigging equipment; assembles machines, and bolts, welds, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures as required to ensure stability.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Vocational or technical training in skilled trades field.
  • New York State Plant Maintenance Mechanic Certification, preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Clean Driver's license.
  • Five years experience in an industrial machine maintenance, repair and fabrication experience in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Two years of professional welding experience.
  • Must be available to work overtime and accept occasional call-ins and flexible hours.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, prints/schematics and procedure manuals.
  • Computer proficiency including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in person, verbally and written correspondence.
