Job Description

East Texas Food Bank, headquartered in Tyler, Texas, serves as an important resource for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk for hunger.

Position Summary: The Pantry and Warehouse Associate is responsible for preparing and fulfilling orders for the East Texas Food Bank’s (ETFB) partners while providing excellent customer service to our neighbors and volunteers. This position is responsible for stocking the pantry, inventory warehouse management, branch cleaning, sanitation, retail donations, MealConnect, and other general warehouse and branch duties including intake as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilize conscientious and safe handling of warehouse material handling equipment, including pallet jacks and hand dollies, to avoid personal injury to self and others or damage to the product, equipment, or facility
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work area at all times, including warehouse, grounds, freezers, cooler, bins, pantry, and equipment, ensuring sanitation and cleanliness
  • Cleans up spills immediately; keeps walk areas and exits clear; locks and secures equipment and branch facility as required; notifies of any maintenance or repairs needed
  • Demonstrates professionalism and speaks respectfully when interacting with staff, volunteers, neighbors, and the general public
  • Accurately accounts for all products received; assists in picking up retail, completing receiving forms for inventory documentation and receipts of donated products
  • Inspects incoming product to ensure loads for accurate Bill of Lading, container markings or damage, dates, temperature requirements, and pest/contamination guidelines under Feeding America and the ETFB
  • Accurately, efficiently, and safely stores items on racks, shelves, bins, or refrigerated rooms/freezers according to product type, size, expiration date, or product code
  • Works with and may oversee the work of volunteers to complete order processing and customer service
  • Verifies all outbound pallet counts are correct for agency pickup and agency delivery
  • Ensures compliance with the Texas Emergency Food Assistance Program.
  • Keeps all delivery invoices and signed agency invoices for the required period
  • Make arrangements for expired products (produce) to be picked up and removed
  • May perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to pest control, furniture moving, proxy boxes, helping with pickup and deliveries, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with volunteers, guests, and partners
  • Ability to read and write in English and Spanish, preferred
  • Highly organized
  • Certified in an approved food safety program
  • Possess accurate basic math skills
  • Must be certified or working towards certification on all power equipment and have the ability to operate material handling equipment such as dollies, pallet jacks, and forklifts
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people
  • Team player, willing to learn all pantry and warehouse functions

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job

• Spanish/bilingual preferred

  • 1-2 years of warehousing experience or comparable related experience

WORKING CONDITIONS

Warehouse and food pantry environment: extensive walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying items weighing more than 70 pounds; operates material handling equipment; regularly exposed to variable weather conditions from mild to extreme heat and cold, fumes, air particles, contact with volunteers and customers; periodically works extended hours. Interacts with pantry clients in English (and Spanish if applicable) and basic computer skills to enter intake data

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, type, and view a computer screen. Lift a maximum of 70 pounds and climb ladders. Operate lift and pallet jacks in the warehouse. Stock pantry and warehouse as needed.
