Refrigeration/Utilities Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:  There is an immediate, full-time opening for an entry level position as a Refrigeration/Utilities Technician at K&N's Foods USA, LLC (poultry manufacturing plant) located in Fulton, NY.  Employees in this position will be trained to operate and maintain the ammonia refrigeration systems, operate and maintain boilers, compressors, HVAC, waste treatment system, and fire systems.  Repair all plant equipment, facilities and troubleshoot in a safe, sanitary and efficient manner.  This position may be scheduled to work either first, second, or third shift (24/7 operation).  Participate as a team member by exhibiting reliable and dependable work habits which includes assisting others as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Operate industrial refrigeration and heating, steam generation and air conditioning systems according to Ashrae or equivalent standards.
• Working knowledge of ammonia screw compressors, electrical troubleshooting of control/alarm systems, and compressed air systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex problems involving mechanical and refrigeration systems, digital and analog controls, electrical distribution and wiring, plumbing, HVAC and building mechanical systems.
• Ability to rebuild and test equipment, such as compressors and valves.
• Understand schematics and blueprints (pneumatic, hydraulic, basic electrical, refrigeration, etc.)
• Knowledge of piping systems and installation.
• Ability to work independently as well as a team member.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including recommending and taking appropriate corrective action.
• 2 -5 years of industrial utilities experience in ammonia refrigeration, air compressor operations, and maintenance.
• RETA certification preferred.
• Working knowledge of proper welding techniques and operation of machine shop equipment such as, lathe, saws, milling machine, precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read and understand electrical systems drawings.
• Must be able to pass physical examination and Respirator FIT testing.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and frequent climbing of ladders, and work at high elevations.
• Possess good written and verbal communication, detail oriented and highly motivated.
• Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, cleaning agents, extreme temperatures, dusty conditions and humidity.
• Computer skills including the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
