Legal and Compliance AssistantRole and Responsibilities

The Legal and Compliance Assistant performs a variety of support duties to the Legal and Compliance Manager and General Counsel.

  • Assists with coordinating, preparing, and submitting applications for all licenses and registrations within the company.
  • Assists with coordinating, preparing, and submitting annual reports and renewals for all licenses and registrations within the company.
  • Assists with coordinating, preparing, and submitting responses to Subpoenas within the company.
  • Prepares contracts and other legal documents from standard forms for review, approval, and use by General Counsel.
  • Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles and legal codes.
  • Performs other clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, and general contract follow-up.
  • Files correspondence and legal documents in companywide contracts database.
  • Assists with client contract follow-up for all company contracts sent out by Legal Department.
  • Assists with Solo entries by the Legal Department.
  • Abide by all obligations under HIPAA related to Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • If a HIPAA violation is discovered, whether individually or by another, you must report the violation to the Compliance Officer and/or Human Resources.
  • Attend, complete, and demonstrate competency in all required HIPAA Training offered by the company.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00AM to 5:00PM CT. We cover clients from West to East Coast, work times must be adjusted to cover meetings in all time zones. Ability to work extended hours, weekends and holidays pursuant with industry demands.

No travel expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Healthcare compliance or paralegal certification.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Healthcare compliance or paralegal certification.
  • Additional legal research certifications and coursework.
  • Experience with business registration or healthcare licensure applications with State authorities.
