Job Details:

We are looking for an experienced HVAC CAD Designer/Drafter to perform computer-aided design and drafting (CAD) for HVAC systems including steam, hot water, chilled water and air-side distribution systems for commercial and multi-family buildings. The successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability to develop detailed design documents for as-built purposes that are accurate and precise taking engineering direction from experienced engineers within our organization.

The design responsibilities of the candidate shall include working under the direction of engineers to develop a project approach and draft the final engineered solution for the project, developing the complete as-built drawings and project details using AutoCAD software. Additionally, the HVAC Mechanical Designer is responsible for coordinating their designs with the other trades (Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Protection) as well as the structure, architecture, civil and any other building trades. Occasionally, the successful candidate will also be required to assist in investment grade energy audits as a lighting auditor to gather data on client's existing interior and exterior lighting systems and lighting controls.

Essential Job Functions - Operational Duties:

  • Prepare AutoCAD MEP and Revit/BIM working drawings, detail drawings, schedules and isometrics for plan/spec and as-built drawings.

  • Coordinate mechanical design drawings with other trades such as plumbing, electrical, fire protection as well as the structure, architecture, civil and any other building trades.

  • Prepare design drawings, details and sketches, P&IDs, concepts, or markups provided by engineering staff. Draft and plot drawings to scale, as required.

  • Layout equipment, piping and ductwork for HVAC systems based on the engineering direction and conceptual design.

  • Perform field surveys and measurements, as required, for the preparation of MEP drawings.

  • On occasion perform site visits and effectively walk through buildings to gather data on client's existing interior and exterior lighting systems and lighting controls for which training will be provided.

  • Input data collected on lighting data collection templates and accurately identify lighting system locations on floor plans.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will satisfy the following qualifications and requirements:

  • 5-10 years of experience in the design of commercial and industrial HVAC systems.

  • Ability to perform field surveys and draft drawings for existing conditions.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD MEP and Revit.

  • Ability to organize and implement CAD standards.

  • Understanding of air, steam and water flow diagrams, and HVAC equipment functions.

  • Understanding of P&IDs and symbols.

  • Ability to layout HVAC equipment, piping and ductwork, and resolve spatial conflicts.

  • Knowledge of basic piping, valve, ducting and fitting components.

  • Ability to complete mechanical schedules with given data from engineering.

  • Ability to scale and re-scale drawings.

  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive to site visits.

  • Must be able to travel both local and nationwide.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to stay focused and organized.

  • Good customer service skills.
