Description:

Responsible for the oversight of all accounting, finance, and reconciliatory activities. This position is a member of the Finance Department operations and responsible for daily accounting functions including but not limited to journal entries, fixed assets, accounts receivable, payroll, administration and account reconciliations. In addition, this position will partner with the Controller, CFAO and the human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.

ACCOUNTING ADMINISTRATION

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and the agencies document retention and destruction policies.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Coordinate all audit preparation activity and prepared by client (PBC) material.
  • Assist with the preparation CFF's annual contract and grant budgeting and planning processes; administer and review all programmatic financial activity and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Coordinate financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Responsible for the monthly billing cycle, ensuring all activities are billed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting software (currently MS Dynamics GP) use and integrations.
  • Maintain financial records in compliance with the agencies document retention and destruction policies.

MISC

  • Maintain agency standards regarding confidentiality and quality.
  • Serve on staff committees as assigned and/or approved.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of accounting and finance experience. Experience in a complex nonprofit with multiple programs, preferred.

  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
  • A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential.
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, and Outlook. Prior experience with using and managing Microsoft Dynamics GP and Management Reporter preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, demonstrated in the planning and performance of work.
  • Possess keyboard skills appropriate to an administrative position, including accurate typing, word processing, and calculator skills.
  • Possess strong analytical ability and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Possess exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to work collectively with the accounting team, larger supportive services structure and CFF organization as a whole.
  • Able to work independently and accurately, with minimum supervision
  • Able to work in a busy office environment that often demands high levels of concentration, and management of a high-volume workload.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partners
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
