Qualifications

ducation and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to two years of full-time work in Golf Course operations.

Substitution of Education for Experience: Pursuing a Professional Golfers Association Membership or completion of the PGA Professional Golf Management program may be substituted for the required experience.

NSQs: A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies, and Tools/Equipment ideally 5 and no more than 7 statements:

  1. Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
  2. Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  3. Self-motivated with desire to promote and market golf and the golf course
  4. Able to provide excellent hospitality customer service
  5. Experienced computer user including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e., email, internet, tournament, and database
  6. Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects and bend, stretch, twist, or reach with ones body, arms, and/or legs

Summary

This position will be part of a Tennessee State Parks Golf Hospitality series for TDEC. The Assistant Golf Professional assists the Golf Course Manager in the management of day-to-day golf operations of the facility. The position is responsible to supervise and manage total golf operations in the absence of the Golf Course Manager. This class differs from that of TSP Golf Shop Attendant in that the latter performs less complex functions. This class differs from that of Golf Course Manager In that the latter performs more complex functions and is ultimately responsible for Golf Operations.

Responsibilities

  1. Assists with managing golf shop operations including golfer check-in, fee collection, snack bar, and with opening and closing procedures.
  2. Assists in tournament operations and weekly events including planning, pre-tournament contracts, post- tournament billing, promotion, course set-up, marking, preparation, scoring, prize distribution, and follow up.
  3. Manages outside operations including golf cart operation, practice facility, and control and manage play on the golf course.
  4. Provides club repair and club fitting services to customers.
  5. Assists in the inventory control of hard goods, soft goods, supplies, and special orders including - ordering procedures, receiving procedures, inputting into point of sale, pricing procedures, display, and sales.
  6. Assists in reporting, recordkeeping, and planning and budgeting for the golf operations.
  7. Leads Player Development programs using PGA tools and other resources by conducting individual golf lessons, group golf clinics, and assist with men's, women's, and junior golf events and programs.
  8. Selects, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates golf operations staff including Golf Shop Attendants and Golf Course Attendants to ensure the highest quality of customer service is achieved.
  9. Responsible for timely and consistently maintaining the course's USGA Handicap System.
  10. Attends conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of customer service, marketing, and business trends.
  11. May act as the interim Golf Course Manager in their absence if needed.

  • A valid driver's license
  • For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, more than 4 moving violations.
