As a Structured Cabling Technician, you will act as the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for voice and data installation projects. Your main responsibilities will include ensuring the completion of jobs according to company and customer quality and safety standards, while efficiently managing the assigned staff.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consistently lead major project crews, providing effective performance management and necessary training. Adhere to company and customer safety guidelines, conducting weekly safety meetings. Initiate performance-related communications and escalate issues to the Project Manager when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to ensure productivity, job completion, and adherence to the project budget.
  • Accurately and timely complete all project paperwork, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, and others as required.
  • Conduct quality checks, coordinate moves and cut sheets for voice and data cross-connects, and prepare red-lined as-built drawings.
  • Act as the main on-site customer contact, addressing questions and concerns. Attend facility and construction meetings as required.
  • Demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge, consistently performing work with attention to detail. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
  • Fulfill any other responsibilities as assigned.


Required Tools:

  • Basic Hand Tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle-nose and channel locks), hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.
  • Trade Tools: punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool, Krone/3M/BIX, butt set, volt-ohmmeter, 4-pair continuity tester, and 5-gang punch tool.

 

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field.
  • Fiber termination proficiency.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of supervisory and/or managerial experience.
  • Proficiency in using the specified tools.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and MS Project).
  • Meets the company's minimum driving standards.


Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must pass a criminal background check and pass a drug test
  • Must be willing to work anywhere in Houston and surrounding area
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule when needed


Abilities:

  • Lift up to 75 pounds at one time and at least 50 pounds for an extended period of time.
  • Fully utilize and relocate a 10-12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet; can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  • Full ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, turn, twist, crawl, squat, walk, climb, push, pull, and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see the differences in colors, shades, and brightness
  • Possess the ability to understand and communicate in English at a minimum conversational level.
  • Meet any and all OSHA safety requirements.
