Job Description

Day in the life of a Certified Nursing Assistant:

Provides basic patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).  Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individual patient care within the scope of his/her training and experience.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Provides direct patient care including but not limited to assistance with bathing, eating, dressing, and walking patients. 
  • Keeps record of care given.
  • Takes vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and pulse oximetry) and performs adult bedside blood glucose monitoring when appropriate.
  • Turns and repositions patients to prevent breakdown of their skin. 
  • Changes bed linens as necessary.
  • Transports patients and equipment as needed within the facility.
  • Monitors patients and reports any variances to the RN for further assessment. 
  • Works collaboratively with the RN in charge to meet physicians, coworkers, management and other department’s needs. 
  • Participates in bedside shift report.
  • Provides unit support as needed, which may include answering and relaying patient calls, accepting and relaying other communications, performing clerical tasks, completing and maintaining reports and records, or ordering supplies.
  • I understand that it is not within my scope of practice to handle any medications that I might inadvertently come in contact with, including medications delivered in the pneumatic tube system.  If I do come in contact with medications, I know to alert a licensed employee for them to handle.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

 

Here is what you will need:

  • Wyoming Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license
  • Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date

 

Nice to have:

  • Prior acute care experience
  • Six (6) or more months of experience as a CNA
