FIBER SPLICER II


Summary Repairs and maintains outside plant telecommunications facilities by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Repairs, installs, and maintains outside plant facilities including telephone poles, underground services, conduit, and cable splicing.

 

Splices underground or multiple conductor cables to repair, upgrade and maintain telephone communication and transmission systems. 

 

Carries out all work related to splicing, terminating, and maintaining cable, including fiber-optic cable.  The cable splicer identifies, counts and prepares the groups of pairs for splicing.  Keeps the Central Office Cable system in efficient operation, maintains cable air pressure,

 

Splices Cable to protector devices and the main distribution frame at the Central Office and splices customer drop cable to the C.O. cable system.  Mounts demarcation devices and protectors at the customer premises. 

 

Wires load coil or other devices into the subscriber loop and transfers customer's service from one cable or terminal to another.  May diagnose and repair trouble, voice frequency repeaters, loop extenders, and cable loading systems. 

 

Must be familiar with all RUS practices and standards.


Working knowledge of Fiber counts


Able to install and prepare Splice cases & Handholds, work in confined spaces, install and prep pedestals, interpret and implement Staking sheets, and read and implement splice cases and pedestals


Will be required to tow splicing trailer (DOT Driver)


Must have introductory knowledge of testing and troubleshooting fiber problems


Lifts and loads equipment and materials onto company vehicles.

 

Assures dependable and uninterrupted operation of telephone communications.

 

Performs preventative and routine maintenance.

 

Troubleshoots and identifies malfunctioning or inoperative equipment.

 

Identifies problems by using electronic testing equipment.

 

Receives, investigates, resolves and tracks trouble tickets.

 

May have construction and CAT duties.

 

Requires on call duty.
