Join our compassionate team as a Hospice Medication Aide/CNA, where you'll play a crucial role in delivering personalized care and support to our Hospice House patients. Under the guidance of nursing personnel, you will administer medications, provide personal care services, assist with meal preparation, and contribute to maintaining a nurturing environment.


Responsibilities/General Duties (including but not limited to):


Medication Aide:

  • Dispense oral, inhalation, and topical medications to patients under licensed nurse supervision.
  • Monito and promptly report any drug reactions to nursing staff.
  • Perform medication administration tasks, including vital signs and dosage calculations.
  • Record medication administration in accordance with policies.
  • Assist nurses in providing care, observing and reporting patient needs.
  • Maintain ethical, legal, and caring practices.
  • Respect patient rights and uphold confidentiality.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and agency regulations for safety.
  • Seek guidance from nurses as needed to ensure safe and efficient task performance.

Hospice Aide:

  • Assist patients with all aspects of personal care, ambulation, positioning, and transfers.
  • Execute activities as instructed by qualified health professionals, including changing colostomy bags, and assisting with range of motion exercises.
  • Observe and report significant changes in patient appearance or behavior to the nursing team.
  • Document care and observations accurately in patient records.
  • Support with food preparation for hospice patients.
  • Ensure adherence to health, fire, and safety measures.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and effective working relationships within the team.
  • Demonstrate strict adherence to rules of confidentiality.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Medication Aide (Commonwealth of Virginia).
  • Hospice experience preferred.
  • Emotionally mature and caring individual.
  • Basic to Intermediate proficiency in word processing software.
  • Knowledge of grief and loss-related skills helpful.

Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and solve problems.
  • Capable of accurate report writing and documentation.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Flexibility to handle multiple tasks in stressful situations.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
