What You’ll Do
As the Senior Investment Officer, you will lead the private equity efforts at MOSERS have oversight of external manager relationships. In addition, this position conducts research into other private markets and the potential subsequent strategic positioning into the portfolio. The position will have the opportunity to allocate substantial dollars over the next few years as the private equity portfolio grows in line with MOSERS asset allocation goals. The position may also serve as a secondary team member in other public or private asset classes. This position works in our office in Jefferson City, Missouri.  We may fill this position at the Investment Officer or Senior Investment Officer level depending on the candidate’s education and experience. 

 

How You'll Spend Your Time

The Private Equity portfolio can include private equity, equity related infrastructure and natural resources, and other private equity related assets.

 

Leading the private equity asset class includes:

  • Manage hiring, monitoring, and termination processes.
  • Overseeing external manager relationships. Including daily monitoring of assigned managers, conducting due diligence meetings, and writing due diligence reports and contributing to portfolio construction discussions. Will lead private equity meetings to inform other staff about current market conditions, current positioning, manager performance, and research projects.
  • Producing research on markets and asset classes for use in asset allocation decisions.
  • Recommending and/or implementing strategic, value-added allocations across illiquid asset classes.
  • Tracking external research sources including interacting with senior research/portfolio management professionals in the investment management and investment banking industries to provide useful insight into markets and investment opportunities.
  • Working with the internal risk team, investment managers, and software vendors to ensure the quality of the data in the risk measurement and custodian systems.
  • Developing and running reports in investment statistical software systems for use by senior management in the investment decision making process.

 

What we're looking for in the ideal candidate: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, finance, or a closely related field with a minimum of 5 years of institutional investment experience, preferably private equity or private markets related. Master’s degree is strongly preferred for the Senior level.
  • Strongly preferred Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation or progression toward a designation.
  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills are required.
  • Advanced knowledge of investment markets, economic theories, and portfolio management for the Senior level.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal are required.  Experience making formal presentations is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with MOSERS staff, members, outside managers and vendors, and other contacts.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity and a high degree of ethics.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently with minimal oversight.
  • Dedication to the task at hand and strive to exceed expectations.
  • A willingness to travel, some overnight and out of state, is required.
