Summary

Responsible for the preparation of all foods for the residents, guests and employees in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. The cook prepares, seasons and cooks all foods including soups, meats, vegetables, main entrees, desserts and other foodstuff for consumption in the facility. Ensures continued compliance in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

Duties are determined by the facility and may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Must have the ability to increase or decrease recipes to meet the needs of the facility census.
  2. Report any equipment failure and monitor all temperatures of the refrigeration and units during shift.
  3. Follow sanitation and safety regulations while performing duties.
  4. Prepares and serves meals according to recipe guides and modification guidelines.
  5. Prepares food by methods that conserve nutritive values, flavor and appearance: food that is palatable, attractive and served at the proper temperature.
  6. Completes cleaning duties and monitors completion of duties assigned to other staff.
  7. Inspects dietary department regularly to ensure that it is safe and sanitary.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises dietary staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and /or Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret procedures and government regulations. Ability to effectively present information individuals and respond to questions from employees, supervisors and regulatory agencies.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications

Must have the desire to work with convalescent, geriatric or light psychiatric residents. Will assure that the resident's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established and maintained at all times. Must maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information. The employee shall use only the minimum necessary information to perform his or her responsibilities.
