BASIC FUNCTION:

The Respite worker will provide intermittent, regular scheduled, temporary care, and or supervision for a mutual client of Inland Regional Center and United Cerebral Palsy who resides with a family member or care provider.

The current posting is to reflect for clients living in the area of Mecca.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide responsible care so that family stability may be restored or maintained in families with
    developmentally disabled members.
  2. Work a minimum of two hours at each respite appointment.
  3. Follow instructions for care of client/consumers and siblings as outlined by parent(s)/guardian(s).
  4. Assist client/consumer(s) in areas of feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing, grooming, light meal
    preparation, etc., as needed.
  5. Use safety precautions at all times when providing care to clients/consumer(s) and siblings.
  6. Report suspected incidents of abuse to the Respite Program Manager & complete required
    documentation.
  7. Never leave a client(s)/ consumer(s)/ siblings unattended.
  8. Maintain certification of CPR and First Aid at all times, current copies to be on file in office.
  9. Adhere to policies and procedures in employee handbook and respite fundamental training manual.
  10. Adhere to UCPIE’s Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and all other applicable safety procedures.
  11. Report any changes in personal information to respite program manager immediately.
  12. Complete and submit time cards, mileage, reports, etc. using UCPIE time keeping and case management software.
  13. Complete client daily notes and submit to UCPIE administrative offices as instructed by respite
    program manager.
  14. Maintain current information on emergency call forms and submit copy to UCPIE office.
  15. Return phones calls to UCPIE administrative team within 24 hours or immediately if emergency
    message is received.
  16. Do not transport client(s) or siblings at any time.
  17. Continue education through training modules; workshops; annual UCPIE in-house training, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires community driving and visiting families in a variety of home settings.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: The employee must have the ability to lift, pull, push, run and manipulate/use adaptive equipment and patients, which requires strength and gross motor and fine motor coordination. The employee must be able to perform CPR and administer First-Aid. The position requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time (2 to 8 hours per shift). The position requires ability to operate an automobile and a computer. The employee must be able to climb stairs and provide services in the family’s home environment.


TRAVEL

This job requires daily travel to client’s home; note travel will not exceed 40 miles unless approved by Respite Program Manager.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

1. High school diploma, GED certificate

2. 2 years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (experience can be caring for a family member with a disability)

3. Strong written and oral communication skills

4. Computer proficient

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

1. CPR & First Aide Certification

2. Clean TB test every 4 years

3. Valid Driver’s License

4. Valid vehicle registration

5. Valid vehicle insurance

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE

1. Clear security clearance (fingerprint live scan) through the FBI and DOJ.

2. Legally eligible to work in the U.S.A.
