Job Description

Collegiate School is seeking a Maintenance Technician to work in our Facilities department. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general upkeep of the buildings and its infrastructure so as to maintain building operations and ensure that the facilities are safe and functional at all times. The individual is responsible to perform a variety of general maintenance duties to include electrical, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing and HVAC repairs. This position will work closely with all other Facilities departments, contractors, and School divisions to ensure that equipment runs smoothly and efficiently. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work when students are not learning on campus and/or when School is closed.

This is a full-time benefited position reporting directly to the Buildings Supervisor.

General responsibilities include:

  • Review assigned work orders and P.M. schedules, determine and prioritize daily work assignments, and complete in a timely manner.
  • Gathers, examines and evaluates data and presents alternative action recommendations based on analysis.
  • Inspect buildings, electrical systems, machinery, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC systems, changing filters, bearings, belts, etc..
  • Identify and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures; address leaks, open clogged lines and drains.
  • Electrical ability to perform minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts and fuses.
  • Operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools including saws, router, drills, sanders, and various hand tools.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment; recommend tools, supplies, and equipment for purchase.
  • Maintain and repair locks, locking mechanisms, door hardware, keys, closers, and doors.
  • Conduct monthly checks on fire extinguishers.
  • Basic ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, or oral instruction.
  • Identify and assist with carpentry, painting and repair work.
  • Comply with all policies for the safe storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Participate in ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Assist contractors and vendors as necessary
  • Purchase supplies and equipment ensuring EPA regulation compliance and maintains spare parts inventory
  • Utilize shop math to solve practical problems
  • Comply with OSHA safety rules and regulations, and use appropriate P.P.E.
  • Assist with snow removal

Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience as a general maintenance technician (some experience may be waived for appropriate schooling in a technical college along with demonstrated proficiency)
  • Able to use measuring tools such as gauges, multimeters, test and charging manifolds
  • Able to use a large variety of hand and power tools with proper safety techniques
  • Proficient in shop math utilization to solve practical problems
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral comprehension skills required (including proper English, punctuation, grammar rules, etc.) Specifically, ability to read manuals and follow safety instructions
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills, with attention to clarity and detail
  • Proven cross cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of others and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging in the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High School Diploma
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver's license and clean driving record
  • HVAC License preferred
