Job Description

CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR-Trinidad Plant

Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate, hiring manager may elect to fill this position at another level in the job hierarchy based on skills/experience.

This function is responsible for the safe and reliable start-up and continuous monitoring of gas turbines, boilers, steam distribution system, compressed air systems and ancillary equipment as directed by the Operations Manager. Also performs maintenance activities on plant equipment as directed.

Key Accountabilities (includes, but not limited to the following):

  • Operate and maintain the facility in the control room or field, optimizing Plant performance through established procedures.
  • Control all evolutions throughout the plant.
  • Demonstrate procedural compliance in all plant operation activities by operating plant equipment through established valve line-ups and system/component operating procedures.
  • Monitor water chemistry parameters in support of make-up water production, cooling water circulation and ASME guidelines for maintaining boiler and feed water within specification.
  • Master a shift turnover process to ensure a seamless transfer of information to the oncoming shift.
  • Actively participate in the behavior-based safety program and ensure every team member complies with all safety procedures and applicable task-oriented job safety analyses.
  • Accountable to immediate supervisor for ensuring adherence to the Plant's Environmental Compliance Assurance Plan (CAP), taking all reasonable precautions to prevent incidents of noncompliance. Shall immediately report to supervisor any known or suspected violations to the CAP or any suspected situation that could lead to a violation.
  • Operate equipment and perform repairs as needed, maintaining Plant equipment at the highest possible standard maximizing availability, reliability, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on plant equipment. Recommend operating and/or maintenance changes that will enhance plant performance and availability.
  • Cross-reference a Piping & Instrument Drawing with a Process Control Diagram associated with respective system.
  • Assist with routine maintenance training and equipment operation training of other site employees.
  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning necessary to maintain the Plant in a clean and neat condition.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor to this position, but not specifically stated in this description.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information available to the position.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills that include listening to other's ideas and viewpoints, earning trust among coworkers and direct reports, and resolving team conflict situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate the Plant from the control room, as well as the ability to analyze complex problems under the pressure of emergency conditions.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively. Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and support teams as both a leader and participating member.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in plant operations and maintenance
  • Gas plant experience preferred.

Skills/Competency Requirements

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate the Plant from the control room, as well as the ability to analyze complex problems under the pressure of emergency conditions.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively. Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and support teams as both a leader and participating member.
  • Shall be a leader in the area of safety, upholding safety as a core value.
  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on a rotating shift schedule. Shift work, overtime, and standby status are required.
  • Ability to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment, accurately read and interpret instruments and gauges (must have eyesight corrected to at least 20/40), and communicate clearly on portable radios.
  • Ability to respond to plant emergencies.
  • Ability to perform demanding work at heights under adverse conditions and when participating in emergency activities.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces as required to complete assigned task.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight.
  • Ability to pass a respirator physical and fit test.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR.
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
