Job Description

Purpose of the Role: This position is responsible for the primary supervision of all summer staff and facility operations. The Summer Staff Engagement Supervisor is required to serve as the primary adult responsible for the camp operations by summer staff under the direction of the Youth Education Director.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of all summer staff including Directors Assistant Directors, Counselors, Kitchen Staff and Maintenance Staff
  • Help support staff with their needs to better enable them to effectively preform their duties:
    • Help staff members navigate challenges related to:
      • Time off, understanding camp policies and procedures as they relate to staff, dealing with supervisory relationships (Directors/Assistant Directors/Head Chef)
    • Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, etiquette and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial model to campers
    • Work with the summer staff to resolve difficulties with facilities, programs and campers
    • Oversee facility maintenance staff to keep all equipment clean and in good working condition, properly stored and used only for the intended purposes
    • Manage inventory of camp, co op store food and beverages, merchandise, supplies, soap, hand towels, and kitchen
    • Establish good relations with all staff and vendors associated with camp and promote the Farmers Union Camp whenever appropriate
    • Work with camp Directors to execute our overall vision for a quality summer camp
    • Ensure safe and fun camp experience for all staff and participants
    • Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data and information
    • Other duties including but not limited to facility maintenance, kitchen and medical will be determined upon hire


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and provide weekly updates
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to summer staff and campers
  • Mental ability to observe summer staff and camper behavior; assess appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid by assisting campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)


Educational Requirements:
  • Must have at least 1 year of supervisory experience
  • The Summer Staff Engagement Supervisor shall have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Summer Staff Engagement Supervisor is required to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Participation in Leadership Training Camp/summer staff training is required and compensated
  • Summer Staff Engagement Supervisor must maintain a valid U.S. driver license
