Job Description

Summary

The Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for the care and safety of infants. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for the children within his/her care. This is a co-lead teaching position, and all work is completed cooperatively with another Lead/Associate Teacher.

This is a Monday-Friday 9:00 am- 5:30 pm position.

Duties

  • Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Lead by example, encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
  • Supervise child care assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.


Requirements

According to New Hampshire Child Care Program Licensing Rules, the Lead Teacher in a center based program shall have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, be at least 18 years of age, have a minimum of 1000 hours experience working with children in a licensed child care program, and meet one of the following pre-service training/education options:
  • A minimum of 18 credits in child development, early childhood, or elementary education, or other field of study focused on children from a regionally accredited college or university, including at least 3 credits in child growth and development; or
  • Documentation of a non-expired child development associates (CDA) in center based programs awarded by the council for professional recognition.
  • A credential from a teacher preparation program accredited by MACTE.
  • Documentation from or on file with the department that she/he was qualified for and employed in the position of Lead Teacher on or before the effective date of these rules in 2017.
Must have excellent communication skills, be flexible, energetic, be a team player and work well with young children.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and experience working with children is preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
