JOB TITLE: CASHIER

STORE LEVEL POSITION HOURLY/NON-EXEMPT

HEALTH INSURANCE (for Full Time)


JOB OBJECTIVE: To operate the cash register, provide accurate change, operate credit card equipment, and assist customers in every way possible. Cashiers are responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service as per Company standards and standard retail practice, process sales timely, accurately, and efficiently, understand cash register operation and assist with safeguarding company assets. Cashiers must adhere to all cash handling procedures. Cashiers should behave in a professional, ethical, lawful, and honest manner at all times.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Receive payments by cash, credit card, or other authorized forms of payment and return accurate change, receipts, credits or other items due customers.

2. Count the drawer assigned to you at the beginning of each day to determine if the amount of money is correct. Report any discrepancies to management prior to your first order. Never use a register assigned to someone else.

3. Maintain the appropriate amount of cash levels in the register at all times.

4. Cashiers must possess good “people skills” and maintain a positive, friendly attitude. Call for back-up when more than three people are in line.

5. Maintain an awareness of all promotions, specials, half price tags, and Company advertisements. Search carefully for marked price on an item prior to calling for pricing assistance.

6. Promote any special events as requested by management, including obtaining of customer information, insertion of sale flyers into customer bags, and entering of customer contact information if required.

7. The cashier is responsible for all monetary transactions.

a) Count the change back to every customer.

b) Use any and all means available to check legitimacy of bills.

c) A verbal warning will be given if an employee has cumulative cash over or short of $20 or more in one month. If the register is in error of $2.00 or more, a warning report may be entered in your personnel file. Excessive warning reports will be grounds for dismissal. The next warning will be a written warning. Termination will result upon the third written warning. Any single shortages of $50 or more may be grounds for immediate dismissal. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved in writing by the General Manager.

8. At the time of a midday shift change, the cashier and manager must count and verify the amount of cash in the drawer. The new cashier must also verify the amount of cash in the drawer. All verifications should be notated on the cashier balance sheet.

9. All credit card transactions must be performed by the swipe method. If a card fails to swipe, request another form of payment. Manually entering credit card information is strictly forbidden.

10. All over-rings, voids, and refunds must be conducted by the manager on duty.

11. Do not sell any items that have an altered price or price tag or incorrect staples (wrong tag, wrong location, etc.). Store Policy dictates that items with modified or altered tags will not be sold.

12. Do not sell untagged items. Call management for altered prices or untagged items. Store Policy dictates that items without a price will not be sold.

13. Do not ring up items for family members. Please ask your manager to assist family members.

14. Get confirmation/approval of any over-rings, voids, or paid-outs from management.

15. Customer issues should be resolved by the manager.

16. ALL cashiers to call a manager to be present at the point of sale for any item that has a price of $100 or more.

17. Visually monitor all guests and suspicious activity. Contact management immediately when in doubt.

18. Answer appropriate telephone line during off hours, holidays, or as instructed by management. Responsibilities include offering store hours, current specials, and message taking.
