Job Description

Job Title: Shipping and Warehouse Team Lead

Department: Shipping & Warehouse

Reports to: Director of Operations

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Summary: The Shipping and Warehouse Team Lead position leads a team of up to 7 team members in the Shipping and Warehouse Department. This team lead carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; managing timecards, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Top Accountabilities:

1) Deliver on the established goals and metrics for this role.

2) Follow our processes and procedures

3) Effectively and efficiently manage schedules, workload and set priorities for your team to deliver accurate and timely results

4) Guide team/cell for optimal performance, including having team meetings, effective and timely decision making, providing feedback to team members, and effectively using tools such as the visibility board, the DOR and additional Playbook tools

5) Ensure clear expectations are set for your team so they understand the needs of the customer, both internally and externally.

6) Build talent of direct reports. Mentor and coach team members; utilize L10’s and huddles; ensure expectations are set and achieved; elevate team members understanding through educating the "why", the Fey Playbook and following workplace rigors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Area Management
    • Coordinate the day-to-day work of the team.
    • Manage personnel activities, issues, and documentation for your team.
    • Practice effective utilization of equipment, materials, and physical floor space to maximize efficiency.
    • Follow all processes, work instructions and policies accordingly.
    • Complete and maintain effective team process documentation.
    • Adhere, coach and train to the Fey Playbook and the Playbook tools.
    • Complete and conduct quarterly conversations and annual performance reviews.
    • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  2. Customer Service
    • Cultivate a team atmosphere that facilitates a high level of customer service for both internal and external customers.
    • Understand and communicate to team members customer deliverables, the impact of failure and the cost of poor quality.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively to internal and external customers to ensure coordination of other functions such as production, inventory management and quality assurance.
    • Ensure that the team understands our customers’ expectations and that orders are completed in time for shipment.
  3. Inventory Accuracy
    • Ensure that stock levels are accurate, and that warehouse and shipping team members are following all inventory procedures and are held accountable to those procedures.
    • Monitor and measure receiving and warehouse performance for accuracy of location, receiving reporting, movement and storage of material, and transfers to service parts.
    • Inventory cycle counts, adjustments, and maintenance.
  4. Shipping and receiving activities.
    • Ensure shipments are verified and accurate and include all appropriate documentation.
    • Ensure delivery of timely and accurate shipments, both externally and internally.
    • Coordinate receiving of purchase orders and needed internal deliveries.
    • Manage the processing of invoices, ensuring they are done timely and accurately.
    • Oversee unloading and loading of trucks.
    • Supervise materials that need to be staged for counting and inspection.
    • Resolve discrepancies with accounting and supply chain departments regarding: invoices, packing slips, and receiving reports.
    • Study and recommend changes to warehouse and shipping procedures to improve efficiencies.
  5. Safety
    • Create a safe working environment, ensuring that all safety procedures are understood and practiced by the team.
    • Ensure that all equipment safety, forklift speed and operating procedures are followed.
    • Maintain safety and security for your area.
  6. Active Management & Leadership
    • Build and sustain an engaged high performing team.
    • Facilitate cross training to minimize single source resources and ensure the skills matrix is up to date.
    • Manage schedules and priorities to support production requirements.
    • Streamline duties and processes to reduce time through process improvements.
    • Ability to train others to get Forklift certification.
  7. Perform additional duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1-3 years leadership experience.
  • 2-3 years manufacturing experience.
  • Proficient with utilizing computer programs including ERP software and Microsoft Suite.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to analyze and evaluate complex problems.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a shipping department.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. repetitively, up to 70 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Forklift certification will be needed. Ability to pass this requirement w/internal training.
