POSITION: Bus MonitorPROGRAM: Migrant & Seasonal Head Start – Dumas

JOB STATUS: __­___ Exempt __X__ Non-Exempt

__X__ Full – Time _____ Part - Time

STATEMENT OF THE JOB: Under the overall supervision of the Early Childhood Director and the direct supervision of the Center Manager. Work in collaboration with the Bus Driver to properly supervise children at all times during morning and afternoon bus routes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain a professional attitude with staff, parents, volunteers and children at all times.
  2. Greets parents and children during a bus route.
  3. Carries out all duties and responsibilities as related to caring for children and supervising them while they are aboard the bus.
  4. Responsible for seeing that children board and leave the bus in a safe manner.
  5. Responsible for seeing that children are seated safely and behave properly while being transported.
  6. Conduct educational activities while in transit that extend and reinforce classroom learning.
  7. This may include singing, telling stories, playing visual games or doing quiet activities throughout a bus route.
  8. Responsible for seeing that children are accounted for and are safely in their designated classroom upon arrival.
  9. Responsible for seeing that children are returned to parent or another authorized adult.
  10. Assist with the orderliness and cleanliness of the center.
  11. Assist in obtaining and documenting In-Kind (Non-Federal Match) for parent and community activities.
  12. Attend and participate in center staff meetings. Participate in parent meetings and staffing as requested.
  13. Perform other duties as needed and required for efficient operation of the center and needs and welfare of the children.
  14. Responsible for data management in designated areas.
  15. Assist in the avoidance or appearance of fraud and ensure compliance in designated areas of the Center.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Respect confidentiality in all aspects of the Program.
  2. Must be willing to participate in all training designed for professional development.
  3. Able to handle stress, tension and exasperation that contact with many children and adults

may bring every day.

4. May be called upon to administer first aid to children or staff at any time in the program.

5. The incidental nature of this circumstance effectively establishes first aid as a collateral

duty, rather than a primary one.

6. Perform other job-related duties as necessary for the overall operation of the program.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Experience Requirements:

  • Three months experience working in childcare or related field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass tuberculosis screening annually and initial health examination within three months of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to transportation with liability insurance and willing to use vehicle for Agency related travel.
  • Must be able to travel out of area overnight to attend training.
  • Able to hear and communicate orally with children and adults.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift filled food service containers and have the physical ability necessary to clean the facility.

Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.

Personal Traits:

  • Be in sympathy with the concepts of the Head Start Program.
  • Able to keep confidential information without inappropriately divulging it.
  • Able to make decisions and work without continual close supervision.

Work Hours: 5:30am-9:30am & 1pm-5pm Monday- Friday

Receive a $250.00 New Hire Incentive following a satisfactory 90-day job performance review.

$12.07 per hour- Currently budgeted for 10 months

NOTE: Position currently receiving temporary additional pay due to COVID. Will cease when funding is expended.
