Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Sunnyvale is seeking a Nursing Supervisor to supervise and coordinate activities of nursing personnel in one or more patient care units. Verifies that patients' needs are met and evaluates unit nursing care and performance. Participates in planning work of assigned units and coordinates activities with other patient care units and related departments.

What your day will look like:

CARE DELIVERY:

  1. Patient Care Delivery System:
    1. Makes daily rounds to assess patient status/needs.
    2. Regularly accompanies physician on rounds to patient care environment.
    3. Provides daily feedback to staff about performance.
    4. Evaluates 10% of sample medical records daily to evaluate staff compliance with assessment and reassessment and other required documentation.
    5. Interacts on a continuous basis with other departments by directing activities toward problem resolution.
    6. Personally evaluates their shifts at least twice a month.
    7. Confers with Nursing Supervisor about patient/staff issues.
    8. Informs administration / director of issues or concerns when appropriate.

STAFF COMPLIANCE:

  1. Provides Resources for Care Delivery
    1. Functions as a resource to all staff and other depts.
    2. Establishes delivery system around nursing process
    3. Provides care utilizing nursing process
    4. Coordinates efforts of emergency response teams
    5. Delegates responsibilities based on staff qualifications.
    6. Possess knowledge, experience and is competent to care for all ages of patient served
    7. Provides policies, procedures, standards for unit.
    8. Ensure that all reference material remain current for staff physician.
    9. Adherence to all Environmental Code Policies
    10. Develops and maintains job descriptions.

STAFF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Accountable for Clinical Leadership:
    1. Responsible for the day-to-day clinical management of the unit.
    2. Ensures nurse functions in accordance with legislation and common law affecting nursing practice.
    3. Maintains clinical competence in area of expertise.
    4. Responsible for KRONOS for all employees on the unit.
    5. Plan/directs/monitor quality management activities to identify and study nursing care problems and to formulate solutions.
    6. Assumes shift (12 hours) responsibility of management of area to ensure that optimal patient outcomes are achieved
    7. Responsible for staff meetings and maintaining minutes.

Ensures adequate preparation invasive proceed.

  1. Ensures that staff prepares patients according to medical orders.
  2. Ensures that staff performs pre-op teaching.
  3. Ensures that staff completes pre-op checklists.

COMPLAINT RESOLUTION:

  1. Investigates and responds to complaints.
    1. Promptly and fully responds to complaints from patients, visitors, physicians, staff.
    2. Acts on or appropriately refers all complaints.

AGE SPECIFIC CARE:

  1. Ensures care delivery system is adapted for populations served.
    1. Follows departmental scope of service care according to identify populations served.
    2. Completes competency validations related to populations served.
    3. Completes education and training on an ongoing basis related to age specific care.
    4. Follows appropriate policies and procedures to support care delivery for populations served.

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION:

  1. Provides for the safe administration of all medications within Department.
    1. Reviews unit-specific medication administration practices to ensure safe techniques.
    2. Ensures appropriate control of all medications.
    3. Reviews staff performance in compliance with administration practices.
    4. Randomly reviews all narcotic administration.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT:

  1. Collaborates with others to establish vision and values for patient care services; translates vision throughout the organization. Leads with a focus on execution achieving high-impact across quality, services, and cost goals.

Success Factors:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing with the completion of a BSN required, MSN preferred ARDCS or CCI certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience as supervisor and acute care clinical skills
  • Current professional nurse license issued and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
  • Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certification.
  • Ability to communicate in English; both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills required
  • Current regulatory knowledge (CMS and Joint Commission) and current evidence based practice knowledge.
