Responsibilities Provides residents with nursing services and administers medications and treatments in accordance with physicians' orders, within state licensure regulations and consistent with facility nursing standards. Monitors and manages the quality measures and indicators of the community. Plans, develops, directs and evaluates Educational and Clinical Training programs in accordance with current Federal, State and Local Regulation for SNF staff. Plans, organizes, budgets, coordinates, evaluates and develops policies for facility's risk management systems in accordance with current federal, state, and local standard, guidelines, and regulations to protect residents, staff and facility from loss. * Monitors residents within state licensure regulations; may supervise and direct resident assistants where allowed by state licensure regulations. Assists in maintaining a physical, social and psychological environment in the best interest of residents. * Obtains and administers medication and treatments, as prescribed by physician. Documents and reviews medication and treatment sheets for accuracy and compliance with physician orders, professional standards, federal and state regulations and company policies. Assists in implementing and revising service plans or resident care plans based on resident needs. Monitors responses to treatment plans. Possesses knowledge of medication interactions and notifies Resident Care Coordinator and Director of any occurrences. * Plans and organizes quality control programs and activities. Maintains library of quality control and assessment materials necessary for complying with current standards and regulations and maintaining quality resident care. * Oversees the Infection Control Program of the facility and devises infection control reports for submission to Director, Clinical Services and Quality Assurance Committee. Ensures adherence to OSHA regulations and infection control standards. * Directs and coordinates all in-service educational programs of the facility in accordance with current Federal, State and Local Regulations. Develops, maintains and directs orientation programs for skilled nursing personnel. Conducts regular or special in-services for staff to ensure they remain current on new procedures. Develops, maintains and secures records, reports and instructional manuals, reference materials, pertinent to in-service programs. Uses facility consultants and others for special in-services. * Plans, implements, evaluates, and directs the facility's risk management programs and activities in accordance with guidelines issued by the governing board and administrator. Investigates all allegations of misconduct. Notifies appropriate personnel of the investigation. Reports findings to the administrator and other appropriate personnel in accordance with state and federal law. * Ensures appropriate professional staff maintains adequate liability insurance. Ensures licensure and background checks are conducted in accordance with company policies. * Assists in developing and implementing plans of correction for cited deficiencies. Ensures such plans incorporate timetables and methods of monitoring to prevent such deficiencies from reoccurring. * Ensures all personnel attend and participate in annual in-service training programs relative to hazard communication. Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service programs of the Department. Assists the staff in setting educational goals. Meets with supervisors on a regular basis to solicit advice concerning training needs and assists in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services. * Counts controlled substances with off going nurse or resident assistant; secures and corrects reconciliation of controlled substances during shift. Ensures cleanliness and organization of medicine supply room and security of discontinued medicine in accordance with federal and state regulations and company policy. * Assists with discharge process relevant to medication/treatment orders. * Gathers and analyzes resident outcomes through tracking and trending to identify root cause and determines appropriate interventions. * Provides recommendations and reports to management, as necessary/required, concerning quality control programs and processes. Makes recommendations to facility management to reduce the frequency and severity of medical malpractice and resident/staff injury claims. Reports all accidents and incidents to appropriate agencies and facility management within established time frames. * Works with community management, public agencies, insurance adjusters, attorneys, and claimants to obtain and provide information necessary to resolve disputes. * Completes other duties as assigned. One (1) year of full-time nursing experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care to the aged/chronically ill in a long term care facility and one (1) year of experience planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in the nursing field. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Certifications, Licenses, and Other Special Requirements Valid license to practice as an RN. Basic CPR/first aid training. Fire safety training. Must possess a current Health Care Risk Manager license in FL or meet state specific licensure requirements. Management/Decision Making Applies existing guidelines and procedures to make varied decisions within a department. Uses sound judgment and experience to solve moderately complex problems based on precedent, example, reasonableness or a combination of these. Knowledge and Skills Possesses extensive knowledge of a distinct skill or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment. Has working knowledge of a functional discipline. Proficient with computer use and software applications. Possesses knowledge of medication interactions. Possesses knowledge of OSHA regulations and infection control standards. Excellent planning, time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead, direct, and coordinate in-service training, continuing education, and orientation programs for the entire skilled nursing staff.
