Prepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Performs and assists with nuclear medicine studies. Responsible for patient safety protocols. Maintains all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements. Cleans equipment, transports patients and performs clerical duties as required.


Responsibilties:

A day in the life of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Computer system knowledge: Ensures that patient charges are properly recorded into RIS and procedures are tracked accurately.  Utilization of SMS, PACS, RMS  and NMIS downtime procedure.  Thoroughly familiar with technical procedures and QA/QC protocols.
2. Patient Care and Satisfaction: Thoroughly explains all procedures to patient, thus alleviating fears and/or anxiety, and to provide Best Healthcare Experience.
3. Patient Safety: Monitors packages containing radioactive material for contamination of leakage; correctly opens packages containing radioactive material.  Verifies name and properly identifies patient prior to procedure being performed.  Uses two IDs to ensure compliance.
4. Safely and efficiently utilizes equipment consistent with patient needs and departmental routine.: Uses proper ID to include patient demographics.  Quality Control procedures are done consistently as required per radioactive license.  Maintains records of radioisotopes received, used and stored in accordance with state/federal regulations
5. Work Environment: Maintains proper work environment.  Prepares room, equipment and materials needed for examinations, positioning aids for patient comfort and security and protective shields and apparel.  Rooms are clean and well stocked after each procedure before new patient arrival.
6. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Nuclear Medical Technologist License.
2. BCLS - Basic Life Support
3. NJ DEP License

 

Working Conditions:

Lifts a minimum of 20 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs.
