About this job

Up to a $15,000 sign on bonus depending on level of experience.  $15,000 will have a 2 year commitment, $10,000 will have a 1 year commitment.  Sign on bonus is eligible to external candidates and internal per diem candidates that have been employed with ProMedica for less than 6 months.

ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital has been providing high-quality health care services to the Branch County community since 1939. Located in Coldwater, Michigan, ProMedica Coldwater has 71 acute medical beds and 16 adult psychiatric beds to care for patients and their families.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizes deviations and provides interpretation following established standards and practices.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Performs testing
    1. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
    2. Process biological specimens for analysis.  Evaluate and solves problems related to specimen collection and processing.
    3. Performs routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizes deviations, and provides interpretation.
    4. Operates instruments and performs procedures within the scope of training.
  2. Maintenance
    1. Performs scheduled maintenance procedures. 
    2. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and acts according to established protocols.
  3. Quality Control
    1. Performs, records, and maintains accurate quality control records.  Recognizes out of control results and takes appropriate actions.
  4. Knowledge Resource
    1. Answers inquiries regarding results and factors affecting results. Acts as a liaison and fosters effective communication between laboratory and health care team, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  5. Computer System
    1. Performs routine inquiry and data input on the laboratory computer systems.
    2. Ensures accuracy of information in the computer systems and is responsible for corrective actions.
    3. Utilizes computer software to enhance specialty area.
  6. Training/Competency Assessment
    1. Instructs new associates and students as required. 
    2. With respect to experience and education, assesses competencies of other test performers.
  7. Continuing Education
    1. Must complete required number of CE units
    2. Must complete mandatory in-services
    3. Maintains and upgrades personal professional development.
  8. Team Leader
    1. Provides guidance to co-workers in the absence of an on-site Supervisor regarding staffing and technical issues that arise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR Transcripts showing 60 semester hours from an accredited institution with transcripts indicating 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours in chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination OR meet an alternate qualification route for High Complexity Testing Personnel as detailed in 42 CFR subpart M §493.1489.

Years of Experience: Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS OR at least three (3) months of full time experience across all lab disciplines OR alternate experience route for High Complexity Testing Personnel as detailed in 42 CFR subpart M §493.1489.

Certification: American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLT eligible at time of hire with certification achieved within one year of hire.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Lab Coat, Gloves, Protective Eyewear, as required.

Physical Demands: Must be able to move continuously about hospital and between workstations; and prolonged periods of standing. Must be able to tolerate exposure to disease bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids. Must be able to differentiate colors. Must be able to move, lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs., 5% of the time. May have to stand continuously for the entire shift. Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
