Welcome to the team! Associates are chosen for this position because of their ability to display leadership in guest hospitality, exemplify excellent customer service and create a positive atmosphere for guest relations. Associates in this position have the passion and vision to lead the Banquet team to not just meet, but also exceed guest expectations in an ever-changing environment.

Job Functions:

  • Train, motivate, discipline, direct and supervise the work of the employees in the Banquet Department.
  • Develop and maintain all training programs on a continual basis to insure a high degree of professionalism within the staff.
  • Assist with scheduling Banquet employees to maintain service standards while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines.
  • Ensure proper care, security and maintenance of hotel equipment through proper supervision of service personnel
  • Maintain a daily housekeeping program to include storage and operational areas and staff appearance.
  • Assume responsibility for shift supervisory duties, especially with VIP and A&P functions.
  • Coordinate and insure the needs of the Catering department with the managers of interrelated departments.
  • Assist the banquet manager with the preparation of the payroll and gratuity reports as required.
  • Prepare banquet checks with all back up for collection at the end of functions.
  • Attend regular catering meetings to obtain information of the upcoming contracted functions.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings on a regular basis.
  • Organize and orchestrate any last minute changes or details to functions.
  • Distribute all BEOs function sheets and give instructions to Captains, Housemen and all service staff to insure the success of the function.
  • Constantly monitor the staff’s appearance, attitude and degree of professionalism to insure strict adherence to Opal Grand standards of quality service.
  • Communicate directly with the hosts of every function and go over the details of the BEO ( Banquet Captain Checklist).
  • The ability to directly oversee the actual set up and service of contracted functions by giving specific menu information to the servers, by coordinating the timing of the event with the Banquet Chef and by assigning functions to the Captains to insure their success.
  • Assist the Banquet Manager conducting monthly departmental meetings to provide vital information to the banquet staff, obtain staff feedback regarding the department itself, and provide a regular forum for improving departmental communication.
  • Take an active role in implementing safety procedures and following up within the department.
  • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
  • The ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.

Required Skill Set

  • Previous experience working in Banquet/Restaurant setting
  • Hands-on management style
  • Hotel experience preferred
  • Carrying/lifting items up to 35 lbs.
  • Stand 100% of the time up to 8-10 hours a day.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience in related industry
  • Must be organized and able to handle multiple tasks. Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to supervise associates.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to actively train and coach on a daily basis
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines.
