This is a full time position and will transport MLIH consumers to locations as needed, mainly within Logan and Mingo Counties in West Virginia, with longer trips, as needed.


POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is essential in order to transport consumers to our agencies for appointments. This employee should possess the ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making pertaining to his/her job, and follow all traffic laws. They must be able to deal with the public handling complaints, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Sweep vehicle daily, keep gas in tank at all times, wash twice a week, and be ready for check from Program Manager.

  1. Daily monitoring of vehicle equipment such as lights, brakes, horns, or windshield wipers, to ensure proper operation. Perform daily routine vehicle checks and maintenance such as regulating tire pressure, adding gasoline, oil, or water.

  1. Shall obey all traffic and safety laws and follow all normal and legal safety regulations and never use the vehicle for personal reasons.

  1. Arrange to pick up identified consumers or groups on schedule.

  1. Immediately notify the Transportation Program Manager of vehicle problems or an accident. Pick up passengers at prearranged locations.

  1. Operate vehicles with specialized equipment, such as wheelchair lifts to transport and secure passengers with special needs.

  1. Record all required information contained on trip sheets, along with trip information such as time and place of pickup and drop-off with 95% accuracy. Make daily plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish completed trips on time.

  1. Professionally communicating with people outside of the agency, representing the agency to consumers, the public, government, and other external sources. Must have good personal hygiene at all times.

  1. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials. Must wear closed toe and heel shoes at all times when operating the agency vehicles.

  1. Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with consumers and staff and maintaining them over time. Providing and receiving information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone or email.

  1. Complete accident reports immediately if possible.

  1. Communicate with Transportation Program Manager by radio, telephone, or computer to exchange information and receive requests for passenger service.

  1. Drive only agency vehicles credentialed by the transportation management vendor to transport passengers.

  1. Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards and communicates it to the Transportation Program Manager. Analyze weather information, road closures, and other evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve the problems.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent. This employee should have valid West Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record. This employee should be credentialed through Medicaid Transportation Company if needed.
